Ezekiel 35
- Jacob and Esau, unlikely twins; Jacob had smooth skin while Esau was hairy. Jacob liked to stay in tents while Esau liked to hunt. Isaac favored Esau while Rebecca favored Jacob. Jacob was wise while Esau was a fool.
- Esau received the heritage birthright since he was delivered from the womb first.
- Esau traded his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of “red stew”, the beginning of the ancient hatred. The root meaning of Esau’s red stew is “pride”.
Study notes in Genesis 25:30 - Says He who is from the Beginning: “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.” Romans 9:13
- So Esau dwelt in Mount Seir. Esau is Edom. Genesis 36:8
Mt. Seir was the settlement of Edomites; in Hebrew- known as the place of demons.
- The sibling hatred remains: The history that was …is …and will be again. The Ancient Hatred continues, and will continue to ripen into the future until the slaughter at Armageddon when Jesus is ready to reap the harvest of souls. Edom is part of the Arab coalition which comes against Israel at the “End of Days”.
Judgment on Mount Seir
Ezekiel 35:1 Moreover the word of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) came to me, saying,
Ezekiel 35:2 “Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it,
- The place of Esau and his descendants.
- Mount Seir was named for Seir the Horite, whose offspring had previously inhabited the area (Genesis 14:6, 36:20). The children of Esau, the Edomites, battled against the Horites and destroyed them (Deuteronomy 2:4–5, 12, 22). Mount Seir is specifically noted as the place where Esau made his home (Genesis 32:3; 33:14, 16; 36:8; Joshua 24:4).
- Mount Seir is called the place of demons. See Ezekiel 35:1 [Shadows, Types, Patterns and Symbolism]
- Seir the Horite (Gen 36:20) was a descendant of Ham. His daughter Timna married Eliphaz, the son of Esau and Adah.
See: Bible at a Glance Genealogy to Jesus - A phylarch or chief of the Horim, who were the former inhabitants of the country afterwards possessed by the Edomites (Ge 26:20-21; 1Ch 1:38). BC ante 1960. The region doubtless derived its name from him (comp. Josephus, Σαείρα, Ant. 2, 1,1).

Ezekiel 35:3 and say to it, ‘Thus says the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ ):
- In this translation the word for “Lord” is not Yehova but Adonay, and the word for God is not Elohim but rather Yehova. – And elsewhere in this chapter.
“Behold, O Mount Seir, I am against you;
I will stretch out My hand against you,
And make you most desolate (Lit. A desolation and a waste);
- “I” in “I am against you” is the Hebrew word “hen” which is the letter “h” or “hey” in the Hebrew alphabet and which means “Behold”. The letter “h” is the letter added to Abram and Sarai’s name when God pronounced they would have a child in their barren old age.
- The Hebrew letter “h” is surrounded by the supernatural in miracles, and is part of God’s name translated “Yehova”, which literally means “Behold my nail, Behold my hand”.
or the ancient writing:

Ezekiel 35:4 I shall lay your cities waste,
And you shall be desolate.
Then you shall know that I am the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ).
Ezekiel 35:5 “Because you (The Edomites: Arabs) have had an ancient (Or everlasting) hatred, and have shed the blood of the children of Israel by the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, when their iniquity came to an end.
- When they went to rebuild the city Jerusalem.
- Arabs are the descendants of Ishmael and Esau and have intermarried with other Canaanites.
- According to the Book of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible, Ishmael had one daughter and twelve sons, the “twelve princes” mentioned in Genesis 17:20. In Islamic tradition, this gave rise to the “Twelve Tribes of Ishmael”, Arab tribes from which the early Muslims were descended.
- Arabs are first mentioned in Biblical and Assyrian texts of the ninth to fifth centuries BC where they appear as inhabiting parts of present-day Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Iraq.
- Ethnic groups. According to tradition, Arabs are descended from a southern Arabian ancestor, Qaḥṭān, forebear of the “pure” or “genuine” Arabs (known as al-ʿArab al-ʿĀribah), and a northern Arabian ancestor, ʿAdnān, forebear of the “Arabicized” Arabs (al-ʿArab al-Mustaʿribah). Encyclopedia Britannica
- A tradition, seemingly derived from the Bible, makes ʿAdnān, and perhaps Qaḥṭān also, descend from Ismāʿīl (Ishmael), son of Abraham. The rivalry between the two groups spread, with the Muslim conquests, beyond Arabia.
- Esau took Mahalath from the house of Ishmael to be his wife after marrying two Canaanite wives.
Ezekiel 35:6 therefore, as I live,” says the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy yᵊhōvâ), “I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; since you have not hated blood (Or bloodshed), therefore blood shall pursue you.
Ezekiel 35:7 Thus I will make Mount Seir most desolate (Lit. a waste and a desolation), and cut off from it the one who leaves and the one who returns.
Ezekiel 35:8 And I will fill its mountains with the slain; on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those who are slain by the sword shall fall.
Ezekiel 35:9 I will make you perpetually (Lit. desolated forever) desolate, and your cities shall be uninhabited; then you shall know that I am the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ).
Ezekiel 35:10 “Because you have said, ‘These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess them,’ although the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) was there,
- These two nations: Israel and Judah = The modern nation we know as Israel.
Ezekiel 35:11 therefore, as I live,” says the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy yᵊhōvâ), “I will do according to your anger and according to the envy which you showed in your hatred against them; and I will make Myself known among them when I judge you.
Ezekiel 35:12 Then you shall know that I am the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ). I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are desolate; they are given to us to consume.’
Ezekiel 35:13 Thus with your mouth you have boasted (Lit. made yourself great) against Me and multiplied your words against Me; I have heard them.”
Ezekiel 35:14 ‘Thus says the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy yᵊhōvâ): “The whole earth will rejoice when I make you desolate.
Ezekiel 35:15 As you rejoiced because the inheritance of the house of Israel was desolate, so I will do to you; you shall be desolate, O Mount Seir, as well as all of Edom—all of it! Then they shall know that I am the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ).” ’
- The modern day Edomites are the descendants of Esau.
- “Mount Seir was originally inhabited by the Horites, or “troglodytes,” who were doubtless the excavators of those singular rock dwellings found in such numbers in the ravines and cliffs around Petra. They were dispossessed, and apparently annihilated, by the posterity of Esau, who “dwelt in their stead” (De 2:12). The history of Seir thus early merges into that of Edom. Though the country was afterwards called. Edom, yet the older name, Seir, did not pass away: it is frequently mentioned in the subsequent history of the Israelites (1Ch 4:42; 2Ch 20:10). Mount Seir is the subject of a terrible prophetic curse pronounced by Ezekiel (Ezekiel 35), which seems now to be literally fulfilled: “Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, O Mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will make thee most desolate. I will lay thy cities waste,… . when the whole earth rejoiceth I will make thee desolate… . I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.”

- Note the Edomites play a major role in last day events, as illustrated by the feet of iron and clay on Nebuchadnezzar’s statue. The iron is the Roman Empire and the Red Clay represent the tribes of Esau. The Roman empire has continued beyond the Caesars lasting through the Holy Roman Empire, and on to modern times. The last Holy Roman emperor was Otto Von Hapsburg. Since then, the pope claims the titular title of the Holy Roman Emperor through the Catholic church. The iron and clay create a perfect recipe for end time events: The pope, as Holy Roman emperor, by creating a united faith initiative for a one world religion in Jerusalem, the Arabs who continue to have an ancient hatred for the Jews, and the global Club of Rome which has recently taken a prominent role in the affairs of all nations seemingly to promote leaders who will serve their agenda and sensically lead to their support of one man who will rise as the Antichrist.
End Times Verses for Edom:
Malachi 1:4
Even though Edom has said, “We have been impoverished, But we will return and build the desolate places,” Thus says the Lord of hosts: “They may build, but I will throw down; They shall be called the Territory of Wickedness, And the people against whom the Lord will have indignation forever.
Obediah 1:18
But the house of Esau shall be stubble;
They shall kindle them and devour them,
And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau,”
For the Lord has spoken.
Amos 1:11
Thus says the Lord: “For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because he pursued his brother with the sword, And cast off all pity; His anger tore perpetually, And he kept his wrath forever.
Joel 3:19
“Egypt shall be a desolation, And Edom a desolate wilderness, Because of violence against the people of Judah, For they have shed innocent blood in their land.
Ezekiel 35:15

Ezekiel 36:5

And spread His wings over Bozrah;
The heart of the mighty men of Edom in that day shall be
Like the heart of a woman in birth pangs.
Isaiah 21:11-12
Proclamation Against Edom
The burden (oracle) against Dumah.
He calls to me out of Seir,
“Watchman, what of the night?
Watchman, what of the night?”
The watchman said,
“The morning (rapture) comes, and also the night (tribulation).
If you will inquire (boil), inquire (boil);
Return! Come back!” (Jesus Returns)
Isaiah 34:5-6 “For My sword shall be bathed in heaven; Indeed it shall come down on Edom, And on the people of My curse, for judgment.
The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, It is made overflowing with fatness, With the blood of lambs and goats, With the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah, And a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
Isaiah 63:1
The Lord in Judgment and Salvation
Who is this who comes from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah, This One who is glorious in His apparel, Traveling in the greatness of His strength?— “I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”
