Isaiah 6
What should I learn from this chapter:
- “Isaiah ישעיה ” meaning” Yah is Salvation, or Salvation Of The Lord
Etymology From (1) the verb (ישע yasha’), to save, and (2) the verb (יה yah), the name of the Lord. - Isaiah is similar to the word “To Send” שָׁלַח
- Exodus 3:14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me (Hebrew: šālaḥ h7971 ‘to send’) to you.’ ”
- Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
- Compare the two meanings highlighted in yellow with their Hebrew letters.
- In the Hebrew tradition, it appears that an original author didn’t mean his texts to reflect his own words, but rather God’s, and God’s voice continued sounding when the original author had long perished.
Isaiah Called to Be a Prophet
Isaiah 6:1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord (‘ăḏōnāy) sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe (His authority, His presence, His influence) filled (has no equal) the temple.
Isaiah 6:2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
- Seraphim is the plural form of its singular counterpart Seraph.
- Strong’s H8314 seraphim
serpent, reptile, fiery serpent- poisonous serpent (fiery from burning effect of poison)
- majestic beings with 6 wings, human hands or voices in attendance upon God
- Strong’s H8314 seraphim
- “The seraphim are frequently mentioned in the Book of Enoch (xx. 7, lxi. 10, lxxi. 7), where they are designated as δράκονες (“serpents”) and are always mentioned in conjunction with the cherubim as the heavenly creatures standing nearest to God.”
“(They) have nothing whatever to do with the ‘messengers of God’” (angels).

Isaiah 6:3 And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts (Yᵊhōvâ ṣāḇā’);
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
- Seraphim have six wings, with a head in the center, making a fiery menorah.
- “Holy, Holy, Holy” is repeated three times; one for the Father, one for the Son, and one for the Holy Spirit.
- Satan is described as a serpent, a dragon, a sea monster called Leviathan, and a reptile. One verse lends credence to the concept that he will be “tamed” by God:
- Job 41:3-4 Will he (Satan as the Leviathan) make many supplications to you?
Will he speak softly to you?
Will he make a covenant with you?
Will you take him as a servant forever?
- Job 41:3-4 Will he (Satan as the Leviathan) make many supplications to you?
- The speculation is that Satan may be akin to being a Seraphim. Before he fell, he may have been in the throne room praising God. According to Ezekiel his position in heaven was exceptionally elevated:
- Ezekiel 28:13-15 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes (settings) was prepared for you on the day you were created.
“You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God (Zion); You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you…”
- Ezekiel 28:13-15 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes (settings) was prepared for you on the day you were created.
Isaiah 6:4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
Isaiah 6:5 So I said:
“Woe is me, for I am undone (destroyed, cut off)!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The Lord of hosts (Yᵊhōvâ ṣāḇā’).”
Isaiah 6:6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar.
Isaiah 6:7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said:
“Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away,
And your sin purged (atoned for).”
Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord (‘ăḏōnāy), saying:
“Whom shall I send,
And who will go for Us?”
- “Who will go for US?” Plural for the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
Isaiah 6:9 And He said, “Go, and tell this people:
‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
Isaiah 6:10 “Make the heart of this people dull,
And their ears heavy,
And shut their eyes;
Lest they see with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart,
And return and be healed.”
Isaiah 6:11 Then I said, “Lord (‘ăḏōnāy), how long?”
And He answered:
“Until the cities are laid waste and without inhabitant,
The houses are without a man,
The land is utterly desolate,
Isaiah 6:12 The Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) has removed men far away,
And the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.
Isaiah 6:13 But yet a tenth will be in it,
And will return and be for consuming,
As a terebinth tree or as an oak,
Whose stump remains when it is cut down.
So the holy seed shall be its stump.”
- The terebinth tree is symbolic for a tithe, or a holy remnant.
- The holy seed is the nation, the people, and the coming Messiah.
