Isaiah 4

Jerusalem’s Glorious Future: The Millennium

Isaiah 4:¹ And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying,
“We will eat our own food and wear our own apparel;
Only let us be called by your name,
To take away our reproach.”

• A shortage of men from the persecution of the Antichrist and False Prophet.

The Renewal of Zion

Isaiah 4:² In that day the Branch of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) (Jesus-Yeshua) shall be beautiful and glorious;
And the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and appealing
For those of Israel who have escaped.

• For the few who were able to escape.

Isaiah 4:³ And it shall come to pass that he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy (set apart) —everyone who is recorded among the living in Jerusalem.

• Very few are left.

Isaiah 4:⁴ When the Lord (‘ăḏōnāy) has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and purged the blood (bloodshed) of Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning,

Isaiah 4:⁵ then the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) will create above every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and above her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night. For over all the glory there will be a covering (canopy).

• Reference verse for cloud and smoke by day, and fire by night. The same God who brought them out of Egypt:
  • Exodus 13:21-22 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.
    
  • Exodus 40:38 For the cloud of the Lord was above the tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.
    
  • Numbers 9:16 So it was always: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.
    
  • Numbers 14:14 and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that You, Lord, are among these people; that You, Lord, are seen face to face and Your cloud stands above them, and You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.
    
  • Deuteronomy 1:33 who went in the way before you to search out a place for you to pitch your tents, to show you the way you should go, in the fire by night and in the cloud by day.
    
  • Nehemiah 9:12 Moreover You led them by day with a cloudy pillar, And by night with a pillar of fire, To give them light on the road Which they should travel.
    
  • Nehemiah 9:19 Yet in Your manifold mercies You did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of the cloud did not depart from them by day, To lead them on the road; Nor the pillar of fire by night, To show them light, And the way they should go.

Isaiah 4:⁶ And there will be a tabernacle for shade in the daytime from the heat, for a place of refuge, and for a shelter from storm and rain.

• Jesus will be a cloud, smoke, and fire ruling in Jerusalem during the Millennium, and it was Jesus leading them out of Egypt during the Exodus as a cloud and smoke during the day and a pillar of fire at night.
