Judgment on Egypt: The Battle of Carchemish when Nebuchadnezzar defeats Pharaoh Necho.

Jeremiah 46:1 The word of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the nations. Against Egypt.
Concerning the army of Pharaoh Necho, king of Egypt, which was by the River Euphrates in Carchemish, and which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:
  • This Prophecy is documented in the Babylonian Chronicles:

    Babylonian Chronicles
  • “This clay tablet is a Babylonian chronicle recording events from 605-594 BC. It was first translated in 1956 and is now in the British Museum. The cuneiform text on this clay tablet tells, among other things
    The Battle of Carchemish (famous battle for world supremacy where Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon defeated Pharaoh Necho of Egypt, 605 BC.,”

Jeremiah 46:“Order (Set in order) the buckler (A small shield) and shield,
And draw near to battle!
Jeremiah 46:Harness the horses,
And mount up, you horsemen!
Stand forth with your helmets,
Polish the spears,
Put on the armor!
Jeremiah 46:Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back?
Their mighty ones are beaten down;
They have speedily fled,
And did not look back,
For fear was all around,” says the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) .
Jeremiah 46:“Do not let the swift flee away,
Nor the mighty man escape;
They will stumble and fall
Toward the north, by the River Euphrates.
Jeremiah 46:“Who is this coming up like a flood,
Whose waters move like the rivers?
  • A flood is symbolic of an army, a nation which is overflowing its boundaries, invading other countries.
  • Waters are symbolic of many people, such as a sea of people.
  • A river is movement over time of many people.
Jeremiah 46:Egypt rises up like a flood,
And its waters move like the rivers;
And he says, ‘I will go up and cover the earth (invasive),
I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.’
Jeremiah 46:Come up, O horses, and rage, O chariots!
And let the mighty men come forth:
The Ethiopians (Heb. Cush) and the Libyans (Heb. Put) who handle the shield,
And the Lydians who handle and bend the bow.
Jeremiah 46:10 For this is the day of the Lord God of hosts (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ ṣāḇā’ ),
A day of vengeance,
That He may avenge Himself on His adversaries.
The sword shall devour;
It shall be satiated (Filled to the full) and made drunk with their blood;
For the Lord God of hosts (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ ṣāḇā’ ‘ăḏōnāy) has a sacrifice
In the north country by the River Euphrates.
  • The return of Jesus is called the day of vengeance when he fulfills his duties as a kinsman redeemer to exact revenge.
Jeremiah 46:11 “Go up to Gilead and take balm,
O virgin, the daughter of Egypt;
In vain you will use many medicines;
You shall not be cured.

    Scientists have made a significant breakthrough when they have grown a tree from a 1,000-year-old seed in a desert cave near Jerusalem, which could carry Biblical significance.

    The ancient seed, which measures about 2 centimeters long, was first unearthed in a Judean Desert cave during a late 1980s archaeological excavation and is believed to have originated as far back as 1202 AD.

    After years of attempting to bring the tree back to life, researchers now suspect that the tree, which they named “Sheba,” might be the same species as those of the “Judean Balsam” or “Balm of Judea,” a tree that was grown in the Levant.

    The Judean Balsam has been well documented in Biblical literature, including the Hellenistic, Roman-Byzantine, and Post-Classical eras, from the 4th century BC to the 8th century AD.

    The tree’s resin, which was often referred to as “tsori” in Biblical literature (or “balm in English), was a rare plant that was traded in the Roman Empire for healing and medical purposes.

    The balm is also used an ingredient for perfumes and even an incense in the First Temple in Jerusalem, which is believed to have been built by King Solomon around 950 BC.
Jeremiah 46:12 The nations have heard of your shame,
And your cry has filled the land;
For the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty;
They both have fallen together.”

Babylonia Will Strike Egypt

  • From here-on-out the prophecies are yet in the future to take place during the seven year tribulation.
Jeremiah 46:13 The word that the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would come and strike the land of Egypt.
Jeremiah 46:14 “Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in Migdol;
Proclaim in Noph (Ancient Memphis) and in Tahpanhes;
Say, ‘Stand fast and prepare yourselves,
For the sword devours all around you.’
Jeremiah 46:15 Why are your valiant men swept away?
They did not stand
Because the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) drove them away.
Jeremiah 46:16 He made many fall;
Yes, one fell upon another.
And they said, ‘Arise!
Let us go back to our own people
And to the land of our nativity
From the oppressing sword.’
Jeremiah 46:17 They cried there,
‘Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is but a noise.
He has passed by the appointed time!’
Jeremiah 46:18 As I live,” says the King,
Whose name is the Lord of hosts (Yᵊhōvâ ṣāḇā’),
“Surely as Tabor is among the mountains
And as Carmel by the sea, so he shall come.
Jeremiah 46:19 O you daughter dwelling in Egypt,
Prepare yourself to go into captivity!
For Noph (Ancient Memphis) shall be waste and desolate, without inhabitant.
Jeremiah 46:20 “Egypt is a very pretty heifer,
But destruction comes, it comes from the north (Babylon).
  • Bulls are leaders/warriors/strong. A pretty heifer attracts a bull.
Jeremiah 46:21 Also her mercenaries are in her midst like fat bulls (Lit. calves of the stall),
For they also are turned back,
They have fled away together.
They did not stand,
For the day of their calamity had come upon them,
The time of their punishment.
Jeremiah 46:22 Her noise shall go like a serpent,
For they shall march with an army
And come against her with axes,
Like those who chop wood.
Jeremiah 46:23 “They shall cut down her forest,” says the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ),
“Though it cannot be searched,
Because they are innumerable,
And more numerous than grasshoppers.
  • Like a flood, grasshoppers are destructive and invasive.
  • Throughout scripture grasshoppers are indicative of military invasions (Isaiah 33:4, Jeremiah 51:14, Joel Chapter 2, Amos Chapter 7, Nahum 3:17, Revelation Chapter 9).
Jeremiah 46:24 The daughter of Egypt shall be ashamed;
She shall be delivered into the hand
Of the people of the north (Babylon).”
Jeremiah 46:25 The Lord of hosts (Yᵊhōvâ ṣāḇā’), the God (‘ĕlōhîm) of Israel, says: “Behold, I will bring punishment on Amon (A sun god) of No (Ancient Thebes),and Pharaoh and Egypt, with their gods and their kings—Pharaoh and those who trust in him. 26 And I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the hand of his servants. Afterward it shall be inhabited as in the days of old,” says the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ).

God Will Preserve Israel: Prophecy of end times:

Jeremiah 46:27 “But do not fear, O My servant Jacob,
And do not be dismayed, O Israel!
For behold, I will save you from afar,
And your offspring from the land of their captivity;
Jacob shall return, have rest and be at ease;
No one shall make him afraid.
Jeremiah 46:28 Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,” says the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ),
“For I am with you;
For I will make a complete end of all the nations
To which I have driven you,
  • An allusion to the Battle of Armageddon when all the nations come against the Jews.
But I will not make a complete end of you.
I will rightly correct you,
For I will not leave you wholly unpunished.”
  • A Father corrects His children, but He does not enable them.
