A Song to the Lord Who Preserves and Prospers His People

A Psalm of David.

TRIBULATION: (As David, Also Jesus at Armageddon)

Psalm 144:1 Blessed be the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) my Rock,
Who trains my hands for war,
And my fingers for battle—
Psalm 144:My loving kindness and my fortress,
My high tower and my deliverer,
My shield and the One in whom I take refuge,
Who subdues (the peoples) my people under me.
  • Metaphors for Jesus:
    • Fortress
    • High Tower
    • Deliverer
    • Shield
    • Refuge
Psalm 144:Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), what is man‘ (āḏām), that You take knowledge of him?
Or the son of man (‘ĕnôš), that You are mindful of him?
  • The Son of God became the Son of Man.
  • āḏām A descendant of the first man who was made in the image of God.
  • ‘ĕnôš (from the root ‘ānaš to be weak, sick, frail) The Son of God who was made in the image of man.
  • Think about the man in the book of Revelation who is the son of āḏām but became the image of the beast.
Psalm 144:Man is like a breath;
His days are like a passing shadow.
  • As soon as man is born, he dies and leaves behind nothing but his shadow.
  • Humor:
    Two old friends were at lunch when one nodded with discretion toward the other side of room at two elderly ladies and said “Look! That will be us in ten years.”
    Her friend frowned and replied, “That’s a mirror.”

THE RETURN OF JESUS TO EARTH:

Psalm 144:Bow down Your heavens, O Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), and come down;
Touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.
  • A “Bow” is symbolic of a covenant. (God made a Rain “Bow” covenant with Noah. The Antichrist comes into the first seal as a mimic messiah, carrying a “bow”, a covenant, a peace treaty.)
  • Mountains are not only literal – but symbolic of “kingdoms” and “governments”.
  • LITERALLY MOUNTAINS SMOKING:
    • Reference Verse to Mt. Sinai and Moses:
      Exodus 19:18 Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
  • LITERALLY, SYMBOLICALLY, AND PROPHETIC MOUNTAINS:
    • Prophetic Verse to Jesus’ second return:
      Nahum 1:5 The mountains quake before Him, The hills melt, And the earth heaves at His presence, Yes, the world and all who dwell in it.
Psalm 144:Flash forth lightning and scatter them;
Shoot out Your arrows and destroy them.
  • Lightning is a significant sign, signaling the presence of God.

    All three of the seals, trumpets, and bowls in the book of Revelation, lightning is a sign of the return of Jesus to the earth.
    • Rev 8:5 Noises, Thunderings, Lightnings, Earthquake.
      Rev 11:19 Lightnings, Noises, Thunderings, Earthquake, Great Hail.
      Rev 16:18 Noises, Thundering, Lightning, Great Earthquake.

ARMAGEDDON:

Psalm 144:Stretch out Your hand from above;
Rescue me and deliver me out of great waters,
From the hand of foreigners,
  • Great waters are the seas (the oceans). They are symbolic of a sea (masses) of people (in movement): like a great army or many armies.
Psalm 144:Whose mouth speaks lying words (empty or worthless),
And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
  • The coming Antichrist, whose tongue is like butter with flattery and who betrays the Jews with a “Bow” (a covenant, a peace treaty).
  • His right hand would be the false prophet.
  • Zechariah 11:17 “Woe to the worthless shepherd, Who leaves the flock! A sword shall be against his arm And against his right eye; His arm shall completely wither, And his right eye shall be totally blinded.”

DELIVERANCE AND SALVATION

Psalm 144:I will sing a new song to You, O God (‘ĕlōhîm);
On a harp of ten (the number of wholeness) strings, I will sing praises to You,
  • Revelation 5:9
    And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
  • Revelation 14:3
  • They sang as it were a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures, and the elders; and no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the earth.
Psalm 144:10 The One who gives salvation (deliverance) to kings,
Who delivers D-a-V-i-D His servant (King David: Answer to the riddle in the title)
From the deadly sword.
  • The Hebrew word for salvation in Greek is “Jesus” or “Yeshua” in Hebrew.
Psalm 144:11 Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners (gentiles),
Whose mouth speaks lying words,
And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood—
  • A man’s “right hand” is the person closest to him. A king’s “right arm” is his son, the designated “prince”. Jesus sits down at the right hand of the Father.
  • A right hand of falsehood is the one who betrays.

THE MILLENNIUM

Psalm 144:12 That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth;
That our daughters may be as pillars (corner pillars),
Sculptured in palace style;
  • A son who is grown up in his youth is full of wisdom. He is like a tree by flowing waters with his roots deeply planted.
    • Psalm 1:3 He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
    • Jeremiah 17:8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
    • Ezekiel 17:5 Then he took some of the seed of the land and planted it in a fertile field; He placed it by abundant waters and set it like a willow tree.
  • A pillar is also called “a witness”, an “upright” pillar. A sculptured corner pillar in palace style is so beautiful it is something to behold. She is strong and stands beside her husband, like a king’s wife. She represents the spirit of the king.
    • II Kings 23:3 Then the king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people took a stand for the covenant.
Psalm 144:13 That our barns may be full,
Supplying all kinds of produce;
That our sheep may bring forth thousands
And ten thousands in our fields;
  • God’s barn is also full of wheat, without the weeds and tares.
    • Matthew 3:12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
    • Matthew 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”
Psalm 144:14 That our oxen may be well laden;
That there be no breaking in or going out (Lit. breach);
That there be no outcry in our streets.
Psalm 144:15 Happy are the people who are in such a state;
Happy are the people whose God (‘ĕlōhîm) is the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ)!
  • Zechariah 12:8
    In that day the Lord will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; the one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the Lord before them.
