Faith Persevering in Trial
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
Psalm 40:1 I waited patiently for the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ);
And He inclined to me,
And heard my cry.
Psalm 40:2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,
Out of the miry clay (ṭîṭ yāvēn ṭîṭ),
And set my feet upon a rock,
And established my steps.
Psalm 40:3 He has put a new song in my mouth—
Praise to our God (‘ĕlōhîm);
Many will see it and fear,
And will trust in the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ).
- Personal Application: Write a new and special song for Jesus like David did. Begin your prayers with Your song.
- The magnitude of your praise should be directly proportional to the HELL Jesus took you out of.
Psalm 40:4 Blessed is that man who makes the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) his trust,
And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
The Word of God is like a sharpened plow blade digging deep into the desolate, hard soil of lies, turning the soil over and over, until the richness and fertility of the good soil of truth is exposed and the seed of the Gospel is planted, bearing much fruit.
Psalm 40:5 Many, O Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) my God (‘ĕlōhîm), are Your wonderful works
Which You have done;
And Your thoughts toward us
Cannot be recounted to You in order;
If I would declare and speak of them,
They are more than can be numbered.
Psalm 40:6 Sacrifice and offering You did not desire;
My ears You have opened.
Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.
Psalm 40:7 Then I said, “Behold, I come;
In the scroll of the book it is written of me.
Psalm 40:8 I delight to do Your will, O my God (‘ĕlōhîm),
And Your law is within my heart.”
Psalm 40:9 I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness
In the great assembly;
Indeed, I do not restrain my lips,
O Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), You Yourself know.
Psalm 40:10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart;
I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation;
I have not concealed Your loving kindness and Your truth
From the great assembly.
Psalm 40:11 Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O Lord (Yᵊhōvâ);
Let Your loving kindness and Your truth continually preserve me.
Truth is like a jar of jam.
It’s a preservative to extend a man’s life, especially when he’s in a jam.
Psalm 40:12 For innumerable evils have surrounded me;
My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up;
They are more than the hairs of my head;
Therefore my heart fails me.
Psalm 40:13 Be pleased, O Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), to deliver me;
O Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), make haste to help me!
- The dangers in David’s life are immediate.

Psalm 40:14 Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion
Who seek to destroy my life (Lit. soul);
Let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor
Who wish me evil.
Psalm 40:15 Let them be confounded because of their shame,
Who say to me, “Aha, aha!” (he’āḥ he’āḥ A saying of contempt)
- Ref.
- Mark 15:29 And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days,
- Mark 15:29 And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days,
- The mockery of contempt sounds like the braying of a donkey.
Psalm 40:16 Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
Let such as love Your salvation (Salvation is the word “Yeshua” in Hebrew or “Jesus” in Greek) say continually,
“The Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) be magnified!”
- Magnify the Lord in your heart but none can magnify the extant or the extent of His Being.
Grace is LOVE
Law is DUTY
But …
Faith is KNOWING
That God’s promises will be there when you get there.
Psalm 40:17 But I am poor and needy;
Yet the Lord (‘ăḏōnāy) thinks upon me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
Do not delay, O my God (‘ĕlōhîm).
- “T”im and “T”ed are Tim-Ted.
“T” is the cross He hung upon.
T-im is “I Am” and T-ed is the “educator”.
Tim and Ted are one and the same,
Salvation is taught and Jesus, His name.
A God who was tim-ted, just like men.
