What should we learn from this chapter?
- The value of God’s Words.
- God stands in “Eternality”. He sees everything at once; the past, the present, and the future are all the same to Him.
- God’s desire is Love.
Isaiah 61
The Good News of Salvation
Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy yᵊhōvâ) is upon Me (Jesus),
Because the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal (Lit. bind up) the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
Isaiah 61:2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ),
And the day of vengeance of our God (‘ĕlōhîm);
- The Day of Vengeance is the Seven Year Tribulation aka Daniel’s 70th Week.
The Day Jesus returns to earth as the Kinsman Redeemer for His brethren, the Jews.
Isaiah 61:2 To comfort all who mourn,
Isaiah 61:3 To console (Lit. appoint) those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), that He may be glorified.”
Isaiah 61:4 And they shall rebuild the old ruins,
They shall raise up the former desolations,
And they shall repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.
Isaiah 61:5 Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks,
And the sons of the foreigner
Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
Isaiah 61:6 But you shall be named the priests of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ),
They shall call you the servants of our God (‘ĕlōhîm).
- Zechariah 8:23
“Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” ’ ”
You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles,
And in their glory you shall boast.
- The Millennium (Messianic Kingdom) is the period when all God’s promises to Abraham and the Jews will be fulfilled:
- Prosperity
- Protection
- Priesthood
- Peace
- Redemption
- Length of Days
- Land
- Kingship

Isaiah 61:7 Instead of your shame you shall have double honor,
And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion.
Therefore in their land they shall possess double;
Everlasting joy shall be theirs.
Isaiah 61:8 “For I, the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), love justice;
I hate robbery for (Or in) burnt offering;
I will direct their work in truth,
And will make with them an everlasting covenant.
- Everlasting Covenant: Non-Retractable Oath, Promise.
Because there is no one greater, God swears by Himself.
From God’s point of view, everything spoken has already happened.
From man’s point of view, it is a seed of hope buried in the hearts of Jews.
Isaiah 61:9 Their descendants shall be known among the Gentiles,
And their offspring among the people.
All who see them shall acknowledge (honor) them,
That they are the posterity whom the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) has blessed.”
Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ),
My soul shall be joyful in my God (‘ĕlōhîm);
For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Isaiah 61:11 For as the earth brings forth its bud,
As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth,
So the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy yᵊhōvâ) will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
