The Temple Mount in Jerusalem is the holiest site for Jews and Christians. Also known as Mount Moriah (YHWH Yireh); It is the place where Abraham offered to sacrifice Isaac. It is the location of the first Passover before there was a Passover when the Hebrews were taken out of Egypt.

“We can no longer see what Mount Moriah originally looked like. All that is visible today is its summit inside the Dome of the Rock. However, Charles Warren, the British engineer who explored Jerusalem in the 1860s produced a rock contour map, which has not been surpassed in accuracy to this day. Using this rock map and taking the general configuration of the Jerusalem mountains, with the layered rock sloping from north to south, into consideration, our illustration shows what Mount Moriah would have looked like before the subsequent temples were built. It was near the top of this mountain that Abraham built an altar to sacrifice his son Isaac.” © Ritmeyer Archaeological Design

The temple mount is special because it is the holiest site in Judaism. It is the place where the First and Second Temples were built, and it is the place where the third Temple will be built (in the future).

PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE OVERVIEW:
I. ABRAHAM NAMED MOUNT MORIAH
  • Genesis 22:13 So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) it shall be provided.”

The name of the temple mount was named by Abraham “The Lord Will Provide (aka Yᵊhōvâ-jireh: Heb. YHWH Yireh)”- the actual translation says “The Mount of the Lord shall be established” or “The Mount of the Lord will be seen”

(Establish māqôm – who hû’ – establish māqôm the Lord Yᵊhōvâ)
where māqôm is “a place” and hû’ is “God”; or “A Place of God”

The name of the mount is Mount Moriah.
II. ABRAHAM OFFERED TO SACRIFICE ISAAC ON MOUNT MORIAH
  • Before Jerusalem was Jerusalem, before the Exodus, and before the Messiah, Abraham and Isaac celebrated the first Passover on Passover day where the temple would someday be built by Solomon: Who can write a book like this?
  • How do we know Abraham offered Isaac on what would become known as Passover?
    • On this very same day, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt which was Passover.

Exodus 12:41 And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years—on that very same day—it came to pass that all the armies of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.
Exodus 12:51 And it came to pass, on that very same day, that the Lord brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt according to their armies.
    • The historical and genealogical years are 430 years. See: Timeline BC
    • According to the Greek Septuagint LXX the Jews were in Egypt AND Canaan 430 years.

Exodus 12:40-42 And the sojourning of the children of Israel, while they sojourned in the land of Egypt AND the land of Chanaan, was four hundred and thirty years. And it came to pass after the four hundred and thirty years, all the forces of the Lord came forth out of the land of Egypt by night.

Note: 430 years did not include the years they wandered in the wilderness.

III. ORNAN OWNS MOUNT MORIAH AND HAS IT AS A THRESHING FLOOR
  • The threshing floor is significant because a threshing floor separates wheat from chaff.
  • Tribulation is synonymous with Threshing.
  • The harvests are associated with God separating the wheat from the weeds.
  • Harvests are associated with men’s souls.
  • Harvests are associated with resurrections.
IV. DAVID PURCHASES IT FROM ORNAN

The history of Mount Moriah is also its future. It began as a threshing floor and it will end as God’s threshing floor during the seven-year Tribulation. The synonym for tribulation is to thresh.

V. KING SOLOMON BUILDS THE TEMPLE ON MT. MORIAH

God gave a specific template to build His Holy House; it is to match the temple in heaven.
See: Quantum Physics and the concept of “Entanglement” or “Super-Positioning” which basically is the same as hyper-linking one thing to another.

VI. INSIDE THE TEMPLE IS THE HOLY OF HOLIES
  • The Holy of Holies holds the Ark (Coffer/Coffin) of the Covenant.
  • Inside the Ark is the Ten Commandments, the Law.
  • The sacrificial blood is applied to the altar.
  • All of which signifies Jesus’ death: He is laid in a “tomb (coffin)”; an angel at the head and an angel at the foot of His bed, like the Ark.
  • His sacrificial blood “covers” the Law.
VII. NEBUCHADNEZZAR DESTROYS THE TEMPLE
  • The armies of Babylon, destroy the Jewish temple on “Tisha B’Av 9” (the 9th day in the 5th month) in 586/587 BC.
VIII. HEROD BUILDS THE TEMPLE ON A MORE MAGNIFICENT LEVEL
  • The Herodians believed Herod was their prophesied Messiah.
  • In opposition to God’s commands, Herod was not a Jew but a Gentile (Idumaean, descendant of Esau). (Deuteronomy 17:15)
IX. TITUS DESTROYS THE TEMPLE
  • The armies of Rome, destroy the Jewish temple on “Tisha B’Av 9” (the 9th day in the 5th month) in 70 AD; unaware of the irony that it was the same day the first temple was destroyed.
  • See: Timeline BC (Notable Events)
X. THE THIRD TEMPLE SOON TO BE BUILT
XI. THE THIRD TEMPLE WILL BE IN OPERATION FOR THE UPCOMING SEVEN-YEAR TRIBULATION (aka Daniel’s 70th Week)
