Psalm 39
Prayer for Wisdom and Forgiveness
To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.
Psalm 39:1 I said, “I will guard my ways,
Lest I sin with my tongue;
I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle (Psalm 39:1 let me keep a muzzle for my mouth, to avoid hasty and erring speech), (a bridle to stop the mouth)
While the wicked are before me.”
- What happens when a man allows his mouth to be muzzled? Evil flourishes. It invades society until the only mouth left belongs to the dragon.
- When man muzzles his own mouth, by his own discretion, he lives a longer life.
Psalm 39:2 I was mute with silence,
I held my peace even from good;
And my sorrow was stirred up.
- “Sorrow” and “Mourning” are the name of the dragon, Leviathan, also called Satan and the devil.
Psalm 39:3 My heart was hot within me;
While I was musing (meditating), the fire (anger) burned.
Then I spoke with my tongue:
Psalm 39:4 “Lord (yᵊhōvâ), make me to know my end,
And what is the measure of my days,
That I may know how frail I am.
Psalm 39:5 Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths,
And my age is as nothing before You;
Certainly, every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah
- Man is like a vapor, a shadow, grass, an outline, which is here today and gone tomorrow.
Psalm 39:6 Surely every man walks about like a shadow;
Surely they busy themselves in vain (emptiness: make an uproar for nothing);
He heaps up riches,
And does not know who will gather them.
- A shadow has no composition. If it shadow-boxes, it hits nothing, accomplishes nothing, it does not think, act, or feel. It is only the puppet of the object it hides behind. Even its money bag is nothing more than its own shadow.
When it is exposed to the Light. Poof!
Psalm 39:7 “And now, Lord (‘ăḏōnāy), what do I wait for?
My hope is in You.
- “Trust and patience amid God’s peace is a magic elixir changing the pathways of the heavens. It rewrites the story of one’s personal life from grief and death to joy “.
Psalm 39:8 Deliver me from all my transgressions;
Do not make me the reproach of the foolish.
- To delivery is to save. He needs a savior. Jesus’ name means “Savior”.
