Zechariah 14

Zechariah 14:7 It shall be one day
Which is known to the Lord (yᵊhōvâ) —
(The Day of Jesus’ Second Return)
Neither day nor night.
But at evening time it shall happen
That it will be light.
[At twilight, a burst of Light will appear.]

  • Prophetically, throughout the book of Leviticus, any man who had become “unclean” had to bathe and wait until “evening” (also translated as “dusk”) to become “clean”.

For example, Leviticus 11:40 He who eats of its carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening. He also who carries its carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening.

Why was evening used as a time to make one “clean”? Prophetically, ….
  • The first Passover lamb was killed at twilight. The annual celebratory sacrificial Passover lamb was killed at twilight (dusk). Jesus was killed the same day as the Passover sacrificial lamb and buried at twilight.

  • Jesus, as God’s Passover Lamb, said, “It is finished,” died, and was then thrust through with the soldier’s sword, having blood and water spewing from his wound. He was buried at dusk. It was timely for the covering of man’s sins by His blood.
  • Evening is the time when the sins of men were covered with Jesus’ blood, making men “clean”.

If this is a pattern, then it would make sense that it represents the time when Jesus returns, a time when everything is made “clean”. The earth is healed, Israel is restored, and Peace ensues.
  • Secondly, the meaning of “evening” is “to become Surety for.”

“Evening”: h6153 ʿereḇ, root h6150 ʿāraḇ, identical with h6148 ʿāraḇ.

Hebrews 7:22 By so much more, Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.

A covenant is a promise, a pact, a treaty, an oath in which Jesus traded His own life, in exchange for the life of mankind.

Revelation 13:8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

(As Jonah, also Jesus) Jonah 2:9 But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.”
