Ezekiel 37

The Dry Bones Live

Ezekiel 37:¹ The hand of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.

The Dry Bones are a dead nation: the whole house of Israel.

Ezekiel 37:² Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry.

Ezekiel 37:³ And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

So I answered, “O Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ), You know.”

• Can these bones live? Not under any circumstances… except divine circumstances! Today, in 2022, you will not find Hittites, Edomites, Philistines, Jebusites, or any other nation that has passed from the annuals of history, except the Israelites! Even their language was resurrected from the dead! Hebrew is the ONLY dead language that has been resurrected, and in fact, a Hebrew speaking Jew today would be able to converse with a Jew from 586 BC just as though they were peers and they would understand each other completely, even though the Israelites should have disappeared 2,000 years ago!

Ezekiel 37:⁴ Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ)!

Ezekiel 37:⁵ Thus says the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ) to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.

• What a promise from God! Over the centuries, (including the middle ages) nobody believed there could ever again be a Jewish nation, therefore; these passages, they reasoned, had to be symbolic only – not literal. And yet, when God makes a promise He ALWAYS keeps it!

God prophesied he would disperse the Jews and he did. God promised he would send a savior and he did! He promised he would resurrect their nation and he did. He promised  he would gather them in again, and he is! 

If a believer is asked “Why do you believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God” the answer today is easy: The Jews! They should have disappeared thousands of years ago. 

He only, is God who knows the beginning from the end. He only, is God who can bring life back to the dead! 

Ezekiel 37:⁶ I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ).” ’ ”

• Notice the sequence of events. Spiritual life is the last event to happen. That will happen when the Jews recognize Jesus as their Messiah, their Lord!

Ezekiel 37:⁷ So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone. ⁸ Indeed, as I looked, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them over; but there was no breath in them.

• Without breath, the bones are still dead corpses; they are the walking dead – as is all of “lost” mankind.

Ezekiel 37:⁹ Also He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath (Breath of life), ‘Thus says the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ): “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” ’ ”

• The four winds mean “from everywhere”. Four is the number for a stable foundation. Israel is not yet stable but they will be when when their Messiah, Jesus, reigns in Jerusalem.

Ezekiel 37:¹⁰ So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath (Breath of life) came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army.

• How did this nation seemingly “come to life”. How did it get “transformed”?

• Tel Aviv was founded on land purchased from Bedouins north of Jaffa. Pictured above is the 1909 auction of the first lots. Jews bought land at exorbitant prices from absentee Moslem landowners.

• Alexander Keith, a British advocate of the restoration of the Jews wrote that the people (the Jews) are a people without a county even as their own land is a land without people (due to the desolate landscape)

• Below is Lunapark,Tel Aviv since the land has been restored since the return of the Jew.

• Jeremiah 32:43-44 And fields will be bought in this land of which you say, “It is desolate, without man or beast; it has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans.” 44 Men will buy fields for money, sign deeds and seal them, and take witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, in the places around Jerusalem, in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South; for I will cause their captives to return,’ says the Lord.”
• Isaiah 35:1 The Future Glory of Zion -The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose;

• However, the picture below is shown to prove differently, showing the Palestinian people inhabiting the land before the Zionists “stole the land”. This hotly debated issue fulfills another biblical scripture:

• Zechariah 12:3 And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.

Ezekiel 37:¹¹ Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, ‘Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!’

• In Genesis 12:2-3, there are seven “I Wills” concerning the Jews:

To Abraham God Promised: Gen 12:2-3
^{a) I will make you a great nation;
b) I will bless you
c) And make your name great;
d) And you shall be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”}

To David (King of the Jews) God Promised:
^{a) A royal dynasty
b) An eternal throne
c) A political kingdom}

• The writers of the gospel of Matthew and Luke took pains to point out Jesus Christ’s lineage back to King David. HE WILL come back to the earth (literally), Israel WILL become a nation (literally), they WILL possess the land (literally) forever (literally) and there WILL be a 1,000 year reign (literally).

• It is interesting to note prior to 1948 the church DID NOT BELIEVE THERE COULD ANY WAY for Israel to become a nation today.

• Who could blame them? Before a nation was born in one day, it seemed impossible.

• Isaiah 66:8 Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion was in labor, She gave birth to her children.

• Zion is the word for Israel. She was “born” after the labor of the holocaust. Prior to the holocaust, she was a dead nation scattered abroad for over 2,000 years. Her bones were dry, exposed, and almost dust.

• Even today, many people cannot possibly believe this nation has been resurrected in spite of proof. Some even say the Jews that are there are “false” Jews, BUT DNA has proven otherwise:

►GENETIC STUDIES OF DNA:

• “Y-chromosomal Aaron is the name given to the hypothesized most recent common ancestor of many of the patrilineal Jewish priestly caste known as Kohanim (singular “Kohen”, “Cohen”, or Kohane). In the Hebrew Bible this ancestor is identified as Aaron, the brother of Moses. (see opposite page) Research published in 1997 and thereafter has indicated that some contemporary Jewish Kohanim share Y-chromosomal Haplogroup J1 (Y-DNA) with a set of genetic markers, known as the Cohen Modal Haplotype, which may well derive from a single common ancestor. Later, in 2007, the same team announced that they found another common set of genetic marker related to present-day traditional Kohanim families in Haplogroup J2 (Y-DNA). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y-chromosomal_Aaron

• “Despite the evident diversity displayed by the world’s distinct Jewish populations, both culturally and physically, genetic studies have demonstrated most of these to be genetically related to one another, having ultimately originated from a common ancient Israelite population that underwent geographic branching and subsequent independent evolutions.”

• ►A study published by the National Academy of Sciences found that “the paternal gene pools of Jewish communities from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East descended from a common Middle Eastern ancestral population”, and suggested that “most Jewish communities have remained relatively isolated from neighboring non-Jewish communities during and after the Diaspora”. Researchers expressed surprise at the remarkable genetic uniformity they found among modern Jews, no matter where the diaspora has become dispersed around the world.

• Note: Diaspora n. The dispersion of Jews outside Israel from the 6th century BC when they were exiled to Babylonia, until the present time.

• Moreover, DNA tests have demonstrated substantially less inter-marriage in most of the various Jewish ethnic divisions over the last 3,000 years than in other populations. The findings lend support to traditional Jewish accounts accrediting their founding to exiled Israelite populations.

• The scientists estimated the date of the original priest (Aaron, the brother of Moses) based on genetic mutations, which indicated that the priest lived roughly 106 generations ago, between 2,650 and 3,180 years ago depending whether one counts a generation as 25 or 30 years.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_ethnic_diversity

Ezekiel 37:¹² Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ): “Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.

Ezekiel 37:¹³ Then you shall know that I am the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves. ¹⁴ I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), have spoken it and performed it,” says the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ).’ ”

How many Jews died in the six day war? 777 (A trinity of the perfect number 7) The death toll on the Arab side was 15,000 Egyptians, 2,500 Syrians, and 800 Jordanians. How? 

• When Saddam Hussein literally rained down scores of scud missiles on Israel’s cities during the Gulf War, not one person was killed. How?

Why did an unstoppable armada of Syrian tanks bound for Tel Aviv at the start of the Yom Kippur War in 1973, suddenly stop just north of Tiberius and simply wait for the Israeli army to arrive so they (The Syrians) could surrender without a fight? 

When Israel was one day old, they were attacked by twelve armies that the world fully expected would annihilate it. Israel didn’t even have an army. There was one tank and five cannon with which to fight back an Armada against them. And yet, Israel won. How? 

When an Israeli tank commander found himself and his men in the middle of a mine field, how was the prayer of one of his men suddenly followed by an unprecedented wind that blew away nearly a foot of topsoil and then just as suddenly stop, revealing the hiding places of thousands of mines so the soldiers could escape unharmed? 

Why, during the war for independence, did a battalion of Jordanian soldiers approaching the position of a handful of Israeli soldiers defending Mt. Zion without ammunition, suddenly shout "Abraham" and turn and flee? 

How could three dozen teenagers, survivors of the Holocaust, walk right past a company of Egyptian soldiers in the Negev without being seen?

One Kingdom, One King

Ezekiel 37:¹⁵ Again the word of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) came to me, saying,

Ezekiel 37:¹⁶ “As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it: ‘For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.’ Then take another stick and write on it, ‘For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.’

Ezekiel 37:¹⁷ Then join them one to another for yourself into one stick, and they will become one in your hand.

• May 1948, Israel became a nation after being dispersed.  They were the valley of dry bones since 70 AD. But they are not complete. Their bones have come back together but they have not yet received breath from God.

• They are no longer two kingdoms: Israel and Judah, but one. Two sticks become one stick:

• Isaiah 49:16 See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.

Ezekiel 37:¹⁸ “And when the children of your people speak to you, saying, ‘Will you not show us what you mean by these?’—

Ezekiel 37:¹⁹ say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ): “Surely I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will join them with it, with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand.” ’

Ezekiel 37:²⁰ And the sticks on which you write will be in your hand before their eyes.

Ezekiel 37:²¹ “Then say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ): “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land;

Ezekiel 37:²² and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again.

Ezekiel 37:²³ They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God (‘ĕlōhîm).

• Before this: they were commanded not to used His Holy Name. In Daniel, the Jews were called “thy people”, not “my people”.

• Continued Below describes the future of the Jewish nation during the Millennium, when God’s breath (the Holy Spirit) causes them to live not only physically but spiritually as well.

Ezekiel 37:²⁴ “David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them.

Ezekiel 37:²⁵ Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children’s children, forever; and My servant David shall be their prince forever.

Ezekiel 37:²⁶ Moreover I will make (Lit. cut) a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore.

• God’s sanctuary is the New Jerusalem, and the temple is Jesus in the flesh ruling from Jerusalem.

Ezekiel 37:²⁷ My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God (‘ĕlōhîm), and they shall be My people. ²⁸ The nations also will know that I, the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.” ’ ”
