Psalm 79
A Dirge and a Prayer for Israel, Destroyed by Enemies
A Psalm of Asaph.
Psalm 79:1 O God, the (Gentile) nations have come into Your inheritance; Your holy temple they have defiled;
They have laid Jerusalem in heaps (ruins).
- Isaiah 21:1 As whirlwinds in the South pass through,
So it comes from the desert, from a terrible land.
2 A distressing vision is declared to me;
The treacherous dealer deals treacherously,
And the plunderer plunders.
3 Therefore my loins are filled with pain;
Pangs have taken hold of me, like the pangs of a woman in labor.
I was distressed (bowed over) when I heard it;
I was dismayed when I saw it.
4 My heart wavered, fearfulness frightened me;
The night for which I longed (Peace Treaty) he (the Antichrist) turned into fear for me.
Psalm 79:2 The dead bodies of Your servants
They have given as food for the birds of the heavens,
The flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth (the Beast that comes out of the Sea and the Beast that comes out of the earth ie: the Antichrist and the False Prophet).
- Rev 11:3 And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth (or 3-1/2 years by the Jewish calendar).”
- Rev 11:7 When they finish their testimony, the beast (the Antichrist) that ascends out of the bottomless pit (of greed and lust for power) will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. 8 And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord (Jesus) was crucified (Jerusalem!). [Jerusalem, ruled by the Antichrist under the auspices of the Global elite is the place for demons, foul spirits, and vultures (Rev 18:2) She is called Babylon for her idolatry, Sodom for her greed and depravity, and Egypt for her worldliness.]
- Rev 11:9 Then those from the peoples, tribes, tongues, and (Gentile) nations (of the entire world) will see their dead bodies three-and-a-half days, and not allow their dead bodies to be put into graves (To desecrate and humiliate them and to send a message for anyone who wants to rebel against this government). 10 And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.
Psalm 79:3 Their blood they have shed like water all around Jerusalem, and there was no one to bury them.
Psalm 79:4 We have become a reproach to our neighbors,
A scorn and derision to those who are around us.
Psalm 79:5 How long, Lord?
Will You be angry forever?
Will Your jealousy burn like fire?
Psalm 79:6 Pour out Your wrath on the (Gentile) nations that do not know You, and on the kingdoms that do not call on Your name.
Psalm 79:7 For they have devoured Jacob,
And laid waste his dwelling place.
Psalm 79:8 Oh, do not remember former iniquities against us
(Or against us the iniquities of those who were before us!)
Let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us,
For we have been brought very low.
Psalm 79:9 Help us, O God of our salvation,
For the glory of Your name;
And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins,
For Your name’s sake!
Salvation: The name of Jesus in Hebrew. The root of the word Yesha (Jesus is Yeshua) includes not only a deliverer but an avenger.
Psalm 79:10 Why should the (Gentile) nations say,
“Where is their God?”
Let there be known among the nations in our sight
The avenging of the blood of Your servants which has been shed.
Jesus is the Kinsman Redeemer of the Jews (his brethren) and the gentile believers. At His return He will avenge their blood. The Antichrist and the False Prophet will be thrown into the lake of fire.
Psalm 79:11 Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You;
According to the greatness of Your power (arm)
Preserve those who are appointed to die;
Those who have been condemned.
