The purpose of this topic is to understand scripture beyond the obvious, or literal. When the mind sees scripture in symbolism, patterns, and shadows it is like musical lyrics of the human soul.
Once the lyrics are written down (word meanings) and the tunes played (patterns and shadows in red and blue), scripture plays like a favorite song in your soul repeatedly.
But first you have to learn the words…
“Dam/Dom”
H119 a-dam means red or ruddy.
When you add the “A” to “dam” you have the name of man, and specifically the first man “Adam”.
Since “A-dam” was made from red clay, it makes sense that the word for “earth” would have a “dam” in it.
The Hebrew word for earth is … “Adamah!” (A-dam Ah!)
The Hebrew definition of “dam” is “red” blood or “red” wine.
No joke. The first man was a “red” man made from red clay. (Not to be flippant but a children’s joke says that the first Adam was a red man and the second Adam’s name is Chief Cornerstone.)
The Symbolism of “Red”
- The symbolism for “Red” is “Sin and Redemption”: Sin and Redemption becomes the Gospel.
- The first man who sinned was made from the red earth. (Adam from Adamah).
- The father of pride is Satan, The fiery red dragon.
- The second Adam (Jesus) provided His “red blood – dam” for man’s redemption. “This is my “dam” which is shed for the remission of sins.”
- A covering for the tabernacle was made of ram (male sheep) skins dyed red. (Exodus 36:19)
Edom and Esau
Why is Esau called “Edom”? Edom is another spelling of Adam.
Esau means “hairy” but he was born red all over so his “nick name” is “Edom”
Genesis 25:25 And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau (Lit. Hairy).
Both Adam and “Edom” were brought into the world “red”.
The Edomites are the descendants of Esau.
Opposite Twins: Esau (hairy) and Jacob (manipulator)
Esau and Jacob are not identical twins. In fact, they are opposites.
They became two nations: The Arabs and the Jews. They fought in their mother’s womb and they are still fighting today. The two nations will prophetically pull the entire world into it’s end at Armageddon.
The first born of Isaac and Rebecca, Esau was the first twin to come out of Rebecca’s womb, which scripture refers to as “opening the womb”.
The twins, Esau and Jacob, couldn’t be more opposites.
- Esau was red and hairy. Jacob had smooth skin with no mention of redness.
- Esau was a hunter (aggressive) and Jacob was called mild.
- Esau was a man of the field (symbolic for world/worldliness). Jacob lived in tents (God’s tabernacle was a tent. Symbolic of living in God’s presence.)
- Esau was the favorite of his father Isaac but Jacob was the favorite of his mother Rebecca.
- Esau was impulsive but Jacob was manipulative.
- Esau had no perception of the value of one thing over another. Jacob was keen on values. The book of Proverbs is pregnant with the concept of “foolishness” vs. “wisdom”
- God loved Jacob but “Esau have I hated”.
- Malachi 1:2 Israel Beloved of God “I have loved you,” says the Lord. “Yet you say, ‘In what way have You loved us?’ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” Says the Lord. “Yet Jacob I have loved; But Esau I have hated, And laid waste his mountains (Mt. Seir) and his heritage (inheritance) For the
jackals(dragons) of the wilderness.” (A strike-through is used when the translation is more appropriate with another word)
Seir) and his heritage (inheritance) For the
The History of Esau and Jacob
The impetuous Esau returns home starving after hunting when he is hit with the aroma of Jacob’s lentil soup filling his nostrils and inducing his passion for a hot, savory meal. (Evidently he didn’t have much luck hunting).
“Give me some of your lentil soup … I am starving!” (paraphrased).
Jacob was keen to notice an opportunity. He certainly wasn’t moved to share it out of brotherly love. From the time of Jacob’s birth, Esau was the one esteemed, the one to inherit the largest share of their father’s inheritance; destined to be the leader of the two family’s tribes; the head of his own family, the head of Jacob’s family, and the future decision maker having control of the assets. (All because he came out “first.” Jacob must have thought about this many times regretting what he would consider a twisted position in his lack of fortune).
Gen 25:30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his (nick) name was called Edom (Lit. Red). But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.” And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?” Then Jacob said, “Swear (take an oath) to me as of this day.”
So Esau put his hand under Jacob’s upper thigh by his groin, (the Jewish way), and proceeded to take an oath – of death. The understanding being if Esau were to break his oath, Jacob’s future descendant’s would come and take vengeance.
So he (Esau) swore to him (Jacob), and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
Esau despised his birthright. More to this than meets the eye.
The Meaning of “Stew” and it’s Introduction to Satan
Stew h5138 nāzîḏ Something boiled.
From (H2102) zûḏ to boil, boil up, seethe, act proudly, act presumptuously, act rebelliously, be presumptuous, be arrogant, be rebelliously proud. Pride.
Memorize this meaning! It is all through scripture and has deeper understandings than one can imagine. It is not an accident that Hebrew ties the words Stew, Pride, and Boiling together.
Satan is the king over the children of pride. Satan is described as a monster who lives in a sea of people. He is a “sea monster”.
This definition changes the lyrics in a multitude of books of the bible.
Satan is called a Leviathan (Sea Monster) who lives in a sea of people: Leviathan means “mourning/sorrow”. He causes people to (fret/worry/fear) Boil!
* Isaiah 27:1 In that day the Lord with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; And He will slay the reptile that is in the sea (of people).
Satan continually fouls (stirs up) the waters (of people).
Ezekiel 32:2 “Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him: ‘You are like a young lion among the nations, And you are like a monster in the seas, Bursting forth ( boiling over your boundaries like a pot that boils over) in your rivers, Troubling the waters (of people with your feet, And fouling their rivers.
Satan is the king over the children of pride (stew : Esau)
Job 41:15 His (THE LEVIATHAN’S) rows of scales (shields) are his pride, shut up tightly as with a seal; …
20 Smoke goes out of his nostrils, as from a boiling pot and burning rushes. …
22 Strength dwells in his neck, and sorrow (despair/mourning) dances before him. …
24 His heart is as hard as stone, even as hard as the lower millstone. …
(a millstone grinds wheat. The resurrections of the righteous are called “wheat” bundled and stored in God’s warehouse. Satan grinds the righteous)
30 His undersides are like sharp potsherds (broken clay); he spreads pointed marks in the mire (of clay/men).
(he leaves marks in the people he has broken)
He makes the deep (the bottom of the sea where darkness dwells) boil like a pot (stew);
(He causes people to boil, stew, fret, and storm)
He makes the sea like a pot of ointment (used for boiling something in). …
33 On earth there is nothing like him, which is made without fear.
34 He beholds every high thing;
Isaiah 14:13 For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north;
He is king over all the children of pride. (stew)”

Edom, Mount Seir and Demons
Gen 36:8 Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau means “hairy” – Edom means “red”.
Seir = “hairy” or “shaggy” Strong’s H8165 H8163 sâʻîyr, saw-eer’; or sâʻir; from H8175; shaggy; as noun, a he-goat; by analogy, a faun:—devil, goat, hairy, kid goat, rough, satyr.
Satyr, may refer to a demon possessed goat like the swine of Gadara (Mt. 8:30-32)
- Gen 27:11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Look, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth-skinned man.
Malachi 1:4 Even though Edom (Esau’s descendants) has said, “We have been impoverished, But we will return and build the desolate places,” Thus says the Lord of hosts: “They may build, but I will throw down; They shall be called the Territory of Wickedness, And the people against whom the Lord will have indignation forever.
The “Value” of Esau’s Birthright
A believer’s “Birthright” is their Salvation.
Jacob valued it. Esau did not.
God was with Jacob, Esau not.
Esau was a fool, Jacob was not.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
Honor Is Not Fitting for a Fool – As snow in summer and rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a fool. Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight. A whip for the horse, A bridle for the donkey, And a rod for the fool’s back. … Proverbs 26
IF Esau had NOT sold his birthright, his family’s line might have been the family God called the Jewish nation; bringing forth Kings and the Messiah.
A Jewish pattern replaces the first with the second, such as Joseph’s sons when Ephraim replaced Manasseh. More importantly, Jesus is the second Adam replacing sin with righteousness.
When the second replaces the first it is the idiom of “swallowing up”, therefore; Jacob swallowed up Esau.
Do you understand the value of YOUR birthright?
Jacob’s Way and Esau’s Way
Esau went his way and Jacob went his way. Which way was the right way?
Genesis 32:1 So Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
Genesis 33:16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir (the place of demons). 17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth (tent), built himself a house, and made booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth. (Booth: A Tabernacle of God, a place Jacob dwelt in the presence of God.)
- John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I AM THE WAY, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Which “Way” are YOU going?
Esau and Jacob are Opposites
Like twin opposites, Red and Blue are at opposite ends of the visible spectrum of Light.
- John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
- John 9:5 “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Red is redemption which comes by judgment. It’s opposite is blue. There is peace and serenity in the color blue which will someday come when the Jewish Messiah, Jesus, sets up His kingdom, ruling the world, from the city of Peace. At that time the blue waters of people will be still.

The difference between red and blue is the electron’s “refraction”(“reaction” to … ) its exposure to LIGHT.
Esau is Red.
Esau is Mud.
Esau’s song
is written in blood.
