Purpose of a Foundation Stone:
A foundation stone is a stone laid at a ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction of a building. It is the first cornerstone.
It is a basic or essential element of something: The Creator is the foundation stone of a good family, society and government.
A foundation stone is used to determine the vertical and horizontal straightness of every other stone built around it. It ensures the straightness and stability of the entire structure: Jesus, the Creator, is the foundation stone to build stability in one’s personal life.
A crooked foundation stone will cause the entire structure to fail. It is a false foundation stone. Jesus as a true foundation stone is dependable because Jesus is “truth”.
Throughout scripture, straight lines represent truth and righteousness while coiled or bent lines represent Satan and his lies. Satan is called a “serpent”. However; a righteous man is called a “pillar” of the community.
The Ceremony
To inscribe the stone as a memorial with information on the date, people, purpose, and sometimes inserting a time capsule has also become part of a foundation’s stone tradition.
The Sacrifice:
It is common in certain societies to “sacrifice” an animal and bury it beneath the foundation stone.
“Nowhere, perhaps, does the equivalence of the shadow to the life or soul come out more clearly than in some customs practiced to this day in South-eastern Europe. In modern Greece, when the foundation of a new building is being laid, it is the custom to kill a cock, a ram, or a lamb, and to let its blood flow on the foundation-stone, under which the animal is afterwards buried. The object of the sacrifice is to give strength and stability to the building. But sometimes, instead of killing an animal, the builder entices a man to the foundation-stone, secretly measures his body, or a part of it, or his shadow, and buries the measure under the foundation-stone; or he lays the foundation-stone upon the man’s shadow. It is believed that the man will die within the year. The Roumanians of Transylvania think that he whose shadow is thus immured will die within forty days; so persons passing by a building which is in course of erection may hear a warning cry, Beware lest they take thy shadow! Not long ago there were still shadow-traders whose business it was to provide architects with the shadows necessary for securing their walls. In these cases the measure of the shadow is looked on as equivalent to the shadow itself, and to bury it is to bury the life or soul of the man, who, deprived of it, must die. (a)
The Coming Third Temple’s Cornerstone is Ready:
“In the year 1989-1990, the Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement dedicated an initial cornerstone in order to immediately start the building of the Third Holy Temple on the Holy Temple Mount in Jerusalem with no delay. It was the first cornerstone ever dedicated for the Holy Temple since the destruction of the Second Holy Temple in the year 70 AD. The Faithful Movement carried this cornerstone, weighing six-and-a-half tons, to the Holy Temple Mount in a very exciting and historical ceremony that was not seen in Jerusalem since the dedication of the First Holy Temple by King Solomon almost 3,000 years ago. Unfortunately, the government of Israel was not yet ready for such a major, revolutionary, and historic event. The government authorities gave us permission to carry the cornerstone only to the area of the southern gates of the Holy Temple Mount above the ancient City of David.
We were forbidden to take the cornerstone inside the Holy Temple Mount in order to place it close to the ‘foundation rock’ on the Holy Temple Mount on the location of the foundation of the First and Second Holy Temples. The Supreme Court of Israel rejected our petition to locate the cornerstone inside the Holy Temple Mount. One of the judges asked Gershon Salomon, the chairman of the Faithful Movement: “Who anointed you to do this major event?” Gershon immediately replied to the judge: “The G‑d of Israel, the history of Israel, the Israelis of the generation of the destruction and also two hundred generations thereafter who were often times taken to their deaths with the Name of the G‑d of Israel on their lips and the deep desire in their hearts to see the rebuilding of the House of G‑d. Even our generation gives me the authority to build the Holy Temple of G‑d with no delay. One thousand nine hundred and twenty years of destruction, exile and waiting for this moment are enough! Now, we should fulfill the expectation of the G‑d of Israel for His people Israel to rebuild His Holy House with no delay in the lifetime of our generation”.

History of the Jewish Temple Foundation Stone
The Foundation Stone of the Temple in Jerusalem … was … in the location of the Holy of Holies of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. (c)
As the Foundation Stone, also Jesus. When Jesus is “set” in society – that society is set on a solid foundation and is built straight in all directions.
- Jesus is the Foundation Stone:
- Isaiah 28:16
A Cornerstone in Zion
Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily. - Ephesians 2:20
having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, - Psalm 118:22
The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. - 1 Peter 1:20
He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you - Revelation 13:8
The Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
- A Spiritual Metaphor: The Lamb of God was sacrificed and His blood was poured underneath the cornerstone of creation in order to secure it. This is why on each day of creation God could say “It is good”.
- For God, time is the eternal present. That which was – is and will be. That which is – will be – and was. That which will be – was – and is. Time is collapsed and packed into a single dot where now was and is forever.
- A Spiritual Metaphor: The Lamb of God was sacrificed and His blood was poured underneath the cornerstone of creation in order to secure it. This is why on each day of creation God could say “It is good”.
- Isaiah 28:16
