Micah 3

Wicked Rulers and Prophets

Micah 3:1 And I said:
“Hear now, O heads of Jacob,
And you rulers of the house of Israel:
Is it not for you to know justice?
  • It was the leaders of the Jews who had Jesus crucified.
Micah 3:You who hate good and love evil;
Who strip the skin from My people (Lit. flay them),
And the flesh from their bones (butchered);
  • Amos 5:15 Hate evil, love good; Establish justice in the gate. It may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.
Micah 3:Who also eat the flesh of My people,
Flay their skin from them,
Break their bones,
And chop them in pieces
Like meat for the pot,
Like flesh in the caldron.”
  • Note: Beware of shepherds whose intent is not to “pray” but “prey”.
  • The coming Antichrist during the 7 year tribulation: will be a worthless shepherd.
    • Zechariah 11:16-17 For indeed I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are cut off, nor seek the young, nor heal those that are broken, nor feed those that still stand. But he will eat the flesh of the fat and tear their hooves in pieces.

See Timeline below for this prophecy:

  • Jesus is the good shepherd who gives his life for the sheep.
  • He literally gave His Flesh and His Blood for the life of the sheep.
  • John 6:51-54 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
    The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”
    Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
Micah 3:Then they will cry to the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ),
But He will not hear them;
He will even hide His face from them at that time,
Because they have been evil in their deeds.
  • Personal Application: God does not hear the cry of those who have been evil in their deeds.
  • During their time of captivity God commanded the Jews NOT to use his holy name:

  • Many remaining Jews fled to Egypt, taking Jeremiah with them. They joined some of the other refugees of Judea there.
    • “Therefore hear you the word of Yahweh (God), all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt. Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says Yahweh (God), that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of ANY MAN OF JUDAS in all the land of Egypt, saying ‘Yahweh Elohim lives’.” Jeremiah 44:26
  • However, the command was for the Jews in Egypt, those left in Judah, and those taken captive to Babylon.
  • “The elders of the daughter of Zion sit upon the ground and keep silence.” Lamentations 2:10
  • “Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fenced cities, and let us be silent there; FOR YAHWEH OUR ELOHIM HAS PUT US TO SILENCE, and has given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against Yahweh.” Jeremiah 8:14
  • “Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed … And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die. And a man’s uncle shall take him up (the last of the ten, of the ten per cent to remain in the land). Amos 5:3
  • and he that burns him to bring out the bones (to cleanse the land of plague) shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, ‘Is there yet any with thee?’ And he shall say ‘No.’ Then shall he (the man’s uncle) say, ‘Hold your tongue; FOR WE MAY NOT MAKE MENTION OF THE NAME OF YAHWEH, for behold, Yahweh commands [it], and he will smite the great house with breaches and the little house with clefts.” Amos 6:7-11
  • Since their “fathers” and “husbands” had been killed or taken captive, an uncle (the only elder or close relative left) would say to the remnant.
  • “Hush, for we must not make mention of the name of Yahweh, for behold, Yahweh is commanding it.” Amos 6:10
    • The Hebrew of this verse is interesting. The part that records that “Yahweh is commanding it” is an imperative clause that represents the final portion of the uncle’s statement. In Hebrew, the word “for” (which is found in the King James Version) presents an intensive force which is intended to conclude (and emphasize) the subject of the previous clause. The word “for’ is not a conjunction which introduces the next sentence. See Brown, Driver, Briggs, Hebrew Lexicon, p.472 for an explanation of this usage.
  • The word should actually be rendered “because” since it finalizes the discussion of the preceding subject. Thus, when the full force of the Hebrew is utilized, the man’s uncle said:
    • “There shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.” Amos 8:3 KJV
    • “Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.” Micah 3:4
Micah 3:Thus says the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) concerning the prophets who make my people stray;
Who chant “Peace” (All is well)
While they chew with their teeth (those who feed them),
But who prepare war against him
  • They chant “peace” but they actually want “a piece” of them.
  • Like the coming Antichrist whose words are flattering while he plans to destroy the Jews. Yet the leaders of the Jews will gladly receive him.
  • John 5:43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.
  • Daniel  8:23-24
    A king shall arise, Having fierce features (countenance),
    Who understands sinister schemes.
    His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power;
    He shall destroy fearfully (extraordinarily),
    And shall prosper and thrive; He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people.
  • Psalm 55:21 The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, But war was in his heart; His words were softer than oil, Yet they were drawn swords. Who puts nothing into their mouths: They add nothing to the well being of the people.
Micah 3:“Therefore you (the prophets) shall have night without vision (prophetic revelation),
And you shall have darkness without divination; The sun shall go down on the prophets,
And the day shall be dark for them.
Micah 3:So the seers shall be ashamed, and the diviners abashed;
Indeed they shall all cover their lips; For there is no answer from God (‘ĕlōhîm) .”
Micah 3:But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord(Yᵊhōvâ) ,
And of justice and might,
To declare to Jacob (the nation) his transgression
And to Israel (the nation) his sin.
  • Note: Jacob and Israel is the same person. Jacob was a manipulator but after he wrestled with the angel of God and the angel gave him a new name “Israel”.

    Jacob’s name means “supplanter” (He was a twin who took Esau’s birthright and blessing away by manipulating the circumstances. However; Esau easily gave them away.)

    Israel means “Struggle with God” or “Prince with God” and both.

    Prior to the encounter, he was afraid of meeting his brother Esau and he sent his family ahead to have a personal fellowship with God. This is the first time he couldn’t manipulate the situation and had to rely on God to protect him. The angel said….”for you have struggled with God and with men, AND HAVE PREVAILED.” Genesis 32:28

    It is my opinion that the angel was none other than Jesus before his birth as a man. Jesus is God. Jacob “struggled with God” literally and symbolically. Getting his father’s blessing wasn’t enough, he needed God’s blessing.
Micah 3:Now hear this,
You heads of the house of Jacob
And rulers of the house of Israel,
Who abhor (despise, hate) justice and pervert (Lit. twist) all equity,
  • Note: exactly like the rulers of Jesus’ day.
Micah 3:10 Who build up Zion with bloodshed and Jerusalem with iniquity:
Micah 3:11 Her (Zion’s) heads judge for a bribe, Her (Zion’s) priests teach for pay,
And her prophets divine for money (Lit. silver).

“Money dulls morality. It is an anesthetic
used to put a vibrant society to sleep in its bed of corruption.”
~ Barbara Grover

Yet they lean on the Lord, and say, “Is not the Lord among us? No harm can come upon us.”

  • The literal meaning of hypocrite is “actor” – mask wearer.
  • Matthew 22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?
  • Matthew 23:13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.
  • Matthew 23:14-15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.
  • Matthew 23:23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.
  • Matthew 23:25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.
Micah 3:12 Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed like a field, Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins, and the mountain of the temple (Lit. house) like the bare hills of the forest
  • Personal Application: Because of the leaders the people perish.
  • Ironically, the chief priest prophesied when he said “It is expedient that one man (Jesus) should die to save the nation.” The man plotting to kill Jesus in the natural realm, prophesied a truth of the spiritual realm: Not knowing it was God’s plan that His Son, Jesus, should die to save the nation.
