Psalm 66

Praise to God for His Awesome Works
To the Chief Musician. A Song. A Psalm.

Psalm 66:Make a joyful shout to God (‘ĕlōhîm), all the earth!
Psalm 66:Sing out the honor of His name;
Make His praise glorious.
Psalm 66:Say to God (‘ĕlōhîm),
“How awesome are Your works!
Through the greatness of Your power
Your enemies shall submit themselves to You.
Psalm 66:All the earth shall worship You
And sing praises to You;
They shall sing praises to Your name.” Selah
Psalm 66:Come and see the works of God (‘ĕlōhîm);
He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men.
Psalm 66:He turned the sea into dry land;
They went through the river on foot.
There we will rejoice in Him.
  • Literally, God brought the Hebrews through the Red Sea on dry land when they left Egypt.
  • Symbolically, the sea is a sea of people where Satan causes the sea of people to churn, worry, boil, fret, storm, and he fouls the waters with his feet.
  • Metaphorically, God brings His people through the sea of their enemies across the waters of mayhem and brings them into a promised land, heaven.
Psalm 66:He rules by His power forever;
His eyes observe the nations;
Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah
Psalm 66:Oh, bless our God (‘ĕlōhîm), you peoples!
And make the voice of His praise to be heard,
Psalm 66:Who keeps our soul among the living,
And does not allow our feet to be moved (slip).
Psalm 66:10 For You, O God (‘ĕlōhîm), have tested us;
You have refined us as silver is refined.
Psalm 66:11 You brought us into the net (captivity);
You laid affliction on our backs.
  • Note: How does God test us? How does He refine us as silver is refined? He lays affliction on our backs.
Psalm 66:12 You have caused men to ride over our heads;
We went through fire and through water;
But You brought us out to rich (abundance) fulfillment.
  • The Hebrew word for water is mayim which sounds like the English word mayhem.
Psalm 66:13 I will go into Your house with burnt offerings;
I will pay You my vows (Promised deeds/Covenant),
Psalm 66:14 Which my lips have uttered
And my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble.
Psalm 66:15 I will offer You burnt sacrifices of fat animals,
With the sweet aroma of rams;
I will offer bulls with goats. Selah
Psalm 66:16 Come and hear, all you who fear God (‘ĕlōhîm),
And I will declare what He has done for my soul.
Psalm 66:17 I cried to Him with my mouth,
And He was extolled (praised) with my tongue.
Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart,
The Lord (‘ăḏōnāy) will not hear.
Psalm 66:19 But certainly God (‘ĕlōhîm) has heard me;
He has attended to the voice of my prayer.
Psalm 66:20 Blessed be God (ĕlōhîm),
Who has not turned away my prayer,
Nor His mercy from me!
  • Ecclesiastes 3:11
    He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.
