Isaiah 34

Isaiah 34 addresses the Return of Jesus to the earth and the Battle of Armageddon. It will be a war like none can imagine. See a list of verses on this subject which are scattered throughout scripture.

Verses that are often overlooked in scripture is how the sinners in Zion know their end when they see Jesus returning in the clouds with all the saints and angels of heaven covering the skies from horizon to horizon and as far as the eye can see:

• Isaiah 33:14
  The sinners in Zion are afraid; Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites: “Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”
• Revelation 6:16
  and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!

Hebrew meaning of Armageddon –
Har= A hill, mountain, a kingdom
Geddon = a place of the crowds, to divide the crowds, to cut into/gash the crowds, to attach and invade.

Judgment on the Nations

Isaiah 34:¹ Come near, you nations, to hear;
And heed, you people!
Let the earth hear, and all that is in it,
The world and all things that come forth from it.

Isaiah 34:² For the indignation of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) is against all nations,
And His fury against all their armies;
He has utterly destroyed them,
He has given them over to the slaughter.

Isaiah 34:³ Also their slain shall be thrown out;
Their stench shall rise from their corpses,
And the mountains shall be melted with their blood.

Isaiah 34:⁴ All the host of heaven shall be dissolved,
And the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll;
All their host shall fall down
As the leaf falls from the vine,
And as fruit falling from a fig tree.

• The host of heaven = fallen angels. This is a war involving spiritual and physical entities.

Isaiah 34:⁵ “For My sword shall be bathed in heaven;
Indeed it shall come down on Edom,
And on the people of My curse, for judgment.

• The descendants of Esau are the ten kings who give their power to the Antichrist:
  • Revelation 17:13
    These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.
• These people are the clay described on the feet of Nebuchadnezzar’s statue which does not adhere to the iron.
  • Daniel 2:43
    As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay.
• The word “Edom” is the same as “Adam”. Adam was made from the red clay of the earth and as such Esau was called Edom because of his redness.

Isaiah 34:⁶ The sword of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) is filled with blood,
It is made overflowing with fatness (Lit. fat),
With the blood of lambs and goats,
With the fat of the kidneys of rams.
For the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) has a sacrifice in Bozrah (Hebrew meaning of name: Sheepfold),
And a great slaughter in the land of Edom (Hebrew meaning of name where Esau settled is Mt. Seir meaning Shaggy Goat, Satyr, Demons, Demonic).

• Jeremiah 49:13 For I have sworn by Myself,” says the Lord, “that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse. And all its cities shall be perpetual wastes.”
  
  • The capital of Edom, a city of great antiquity (Genesis 36:33 1 Chronicles 1:44 Isaiah 34:6; Isaiah 63:1 Jeremiah 49:13 Amos 1:12). It may be identical with Buceirah, which lies about 7 miles Southwest of Tufileh, on the main road to Petra. Wikipedia
    
• Who is occupying Zion during the last 3-1/2 years of the tribulation? The Antichrist, the False Prophets, the blasphemous, corrupt, demonic peoples of a global empire.

Isaiah 34:⁷ The wild oxen shall come down with them,
And the young bulls with the mighty bulls;
Their land shall be soaked with blood,
And their dust saturated with fatness (it. made fat).”

• Oxen and bulls are strong leaders.

Isaiah 34:⁸ For it is the day of the Lord’s (Yᵊhōvâ) vengeance,
The year of recompense for the cause of Zion.

• It is the day in which Jesus acts on behalf of Zion. As the “Kinsman Redeemer” it is the time in which Jesus takes vengeance on those who have done wickedly.
  
• Romans 12:19
  Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

Isaiah 34:⁹ Its streams shall be turned into pitch,
And its dust into brimstone;
Its land shall become burning pitch.

Isaiah 34:¹⁰ It shall not be quenched night or day;
Its smoke shall ascend forever.
From generation to generation it shall lie waste;
No one shall pass through it forever and ever.

Isaiah 34:¹¹ But the pelican (or owl) and the porcupine (or hedgehog) shall possess it,
Also the owl and the raven shall dwell in it.
And He shall stretch out over it
The line of confusion and the stones of emptiness.

• Owl = Predator, meat eater
• Porcupine = Dart Thrower
• Raven = Predator, meat eater

Isaiah 34:¹² They shall call its nobles to the kingdom,
But none shall be there, and all its princes shall be nothing.

Isaiah 34:¹³ And thorns shall come up in its palaces,
Nettles and brambles in its fortresses;
It shall be a habitation of jackals (desert dragons),
A courtyard for ostriches (cold-hearted).

• Nettles and brambles (thorns) are symbolic for being cursed.
  • In Genesis Adam was cursed with thorns from the ground.
  • Jesus, who carried man’s sins, was cursed with a crown of thorns.

Isaiah 34:¹⁴ The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the jackals,
And the wild goat shall bleat to its companion;
Also the night creature (Heb. Lilith) shall rest there,
And find for herself a place of rest.

• Hebrew Meanings:
  • “Wild Beasts” = Parched, corrupt
  • “Desert” = a place of darkness and gloominess
  • “Jackals” = Desert Dragons
  • “Wild Goat” = Satyr, Demon, Esau, Edom (Esau was born “shaggy, hairy”)
  • “Lilith” = a night demon, adversity, twisted away from the Light.

Isaiah 34:¹⁵ There the arrow snake shall make her nest and lay eggs
And hatch, and gather them under her shadow;
There also shall the hawks be gathered,
Every one with her mate.

• Snake = Serpent
• Hatching Eggs, Finding a mate = Creating a like-minded family
• “Hawks” = Predators of meat

Isaiah 34:¹⁶ “Search from the book of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ), and read:
Not one of these shall fail;
Not one shall lack her mate.
For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them.

• Not one of God’s prophecies will fail.
  
• Not one shall lack her mate.
  • Hebrew meaning of “mate”: female companion, mate, neighbor woman
  • Perhaps referring back to “Lilith” , see verse 14 – Lilith is a night demon.
  • The entire chapter focuses on like-mindedness in evil who are being “gathered” for the day of vengeance of the wrath of God.
  • It appears God is gathering the like-minded evil together at Armageddon for destruction.

Isaiah 34:¹⁷ He has cast the lot for them,
And His hand has divided it among them with a measuring line.
They shall possess it forever;
From generation to generation they shall dwell in it.”

• However; now, it is the Jews who will possess Zion forever. God has promised they will dwell there forever at His return.
• The remnant of Jews also will be gathered from the ends of the earth after the Battle of Armageddon after the evil has been destroyed in order to serve the nations as priests from Zion.
• If God is separating the sheep from the goats, then it is possible that “none will lack his mate” means those who are evil will be gathered together even as the righteous also are gathered together. Each one with different outcomes.
