What should I learn from this chapter?
- The Return of Jesus after the tribulation and pattern of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. The High Holy Days.
- These prophecies occur in history and again in time’s future. Men are disobedient, inviting in spiritual demons, they suffer the consequences, and after suffering they return to God.
- Spiritual demons never die, they just wait for their next opportunity.
Micah 1
Judgment on Israel and Judah
Micah 1:1 The word of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) that came to Micah of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.
The Coming Judgment on Israel
Micah 1:2 Hear, all you peoples!
Listen, O earth, and all that is in it!
Let the Lord God (Yᵊhōvâ ‘ăḏōnāy) be a witness against you,
The Lord (‘ăḏōnāy) from His holy temple.
Micah 1:3 For behold, the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) is coming out of His place;
He will come down
And tread on the high places of the earth.
- Hosea 6:3
Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ). His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter and former rain to the earth.
- Leviticus 26:30
I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and cast your carcasses on the lifeless forms of your idols; and My soul shall abhor you.
- Since it is Jesus returning to the earth, He is called Yᵊhōvâ in verse 3 and Yᵊhōvâ ‘ăḏōnāy in verse 2. Jesus is referred to “Lord God”, an argument FOR the trinity.
Micah 1:4 The mountains will melt under Him,
And the valleys will split
Like wax before the fire,
Like waters poured down a steep place.
- Zechariah 14:4
And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.
- Revelation 16:18
And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth.
Micah 1:5 All this is for the transgression of Jacob
And for the sins of the house of Israel.
- Jesus returns immediately at the end of the seven year tribulation which focuses on the sins of the Jews until every last one recognizes Jesus as their Messiah. The unbelieving world is pulled into a one world government where the Antichrist rules from Jerusalem. The Jews suffer unimaginable horrors as the Antichrist attempts to completely annihilate each and every last one.
- Hosea 5:15
I will return again to My place Till they acknowledge their offense. Then they will seek My face; In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.”- If midnight is the darkest part of the night, then midnight, symbolically, is the darkest part of the Jewish experience with God. When all is hopeless, they cry out to their Messiah Jesus for deliverance at midnight.
- A little on the other side of midnight they see His Face!
What is the transgression of Jacob?
Is it not Samaria?
And what are the high places (where idols are worshiped) of Judah?
Are they not Jerusalem (the holiest place)?
- Leviticus 26:30
I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and cast your carcasses on the lifeless forms of your idols; and My soul shall abhor you.
Micah 1:6 “Therefore I will make Samaria a heap of ruins in the field,
Places for planting a vineyard (A harsh environment);
I will pour down her stones into the valley,
And I will uncover her foundations.
Micah 1:7 All her carved images shall be beaten to pieces,
And all her pay as a harlot shall be burned with the fire;
- Revelation 17:16
And the ten horns (Arabic Kings) which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot (Jerusalem, called Babylon for her globalism and idolatry, Sodom for her debauchery, and Egypt for her worldliness), make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire.- The ten horns are also the ten toes on Nebuchadnezzar’s statue which are made of red clay, a shadow and type of Edom, or Esau and his descendants.
All her idols I will lay desolate,
For she gathered it from the pay of a harlot,
And they shall return to the pay of a harlot.”
Mourning for Israel and Judah
Micah 1:8 Therefore I will wail and howl,
I will go stripped and naked;
I will make a wailing like the jackals
And a mourning like the ostriches,
Micah 1:9 For her wounds are incurable.
For it has come to Judah;
It has come to the gate of My people—
To Jerusalem.
Micah 1:10 Tell it not in Gath,
Weep not at all;
In Beth Aphrah (Lit. House of Dust)
Roll yourself in the dust.
Micah 1:11 Pass by in naked shame, you inhabitant of Shaphir (Lit. Beautiful);
The inhabitant of Zaanan (Lit. Going Out) does not go out.
Beth Ezel mourns;
Its place to stand is taken away from you.
Micah 1:12 For the inhabitant of Maroth (Lit. Bitterness) pined for good (Lit. was sick),
But disaster came down from the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ)
To the gate of Jerusalem.
Micah 1:13 O inhabitant of Lachish,
Harness the chariot to the swift steeds
(She was the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion),
For the transgressions of Israel were found in you.
Micah 1:14 Therefore you shall give presents to Moresheth Gath (Lit. Possession of Gath);
The houses of Achzib (Lit. Lie) shall be a lie to the kings of Israel.
- Revelation 11:10
And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.
Micah 1:15 I will yet bring an heir (Jesus) to you, O inhabitant of Mareshah (Lit. Inheritance);
The glory of Israel shall come to Adullam (Lit. Refuge, Hiding aka “Justice of the People”).
- Adullam = “justice of the people”
- a town of the Canaanites allotted to Judah and lying in the lowlands; site of the cave where David hid.
- The glory of Israel is Jesus.
- Is this where some of the remnant of Jews are hiding during the 3-1/2 years of the “Great” “Tribulation”. This may be the reason the incident is mentioned in the most valuable real estate in the world: the Bible.
- If so, then Jesus would go to those, his people, who are in hiding.
- The faithful are “Joint heirs”
- Micah is using the names of the towns to reveal God’s prophecy. The meanings of the names are historic. Their symbolism is prophetic.
- See Micah Chapter 1 History
- See Micah Chapter 1 Symbolism
Micah 1:16 Make yourself bald and cut off your hair (to mourn),
Because of your precious children;
Enlarge your baldness like an eagle,
For they shall go from you into captivity.
- Historic and Prophetic.
