Amos 7

Vision of the Locusts

Amos 7:¹ Thus the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy yᵊhōvâ) showed me: Behold, He formed locust swarms at the beginning of the late crop (Lit. beginning of the sprouting of); indeed it was the late crop after the king’s mowings.

• The Late Crop is prophetic and locust swarms are symbolic.
  • A “late crop”, a harvest, is actually early in the year. A difference in Jewish and English understanding.
• Locust swarms are symbolic of invading armies.

• The Greek Septuagint (LXX) and the Samaritan Pentateuch read: “Thus the Lord showed me, and behold, a swarm of locusts coming early, and behold, one locust, Gog, the king.”
  Affirming the understanding locusts are armies which have a leader.

• Joel 2 confirms not only the concept of an army, but points to the time of the seven year tribulation for this event,
  Joel 2:25, 31-32
  “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust (a northern army) has eaten,
  The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you.
  ³¹ The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood,
  Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord (the return of Jesus).
  ³² And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord
  Shall be saved (delivered).
  For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance (salvation),
  As the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls.

• Who is “Gog, king of the Locusts?”
  The name “Gog” is synonymous (interchangeable) with “Agag” who was the king of the Amalakites, during the time of Saul, the king. From Agag’s lineage came Haman in the book of Esther, and appears to be prophetic, being part of the lineage of the Antichrist (as well as being Syrian from the book of Daniel, as the king of the North)

• During the seven year tribulation ten kings give their power to the Antichrist. These are the ten toes on Nebuchadnezzar’s statue described as being partly clay and partly iron which will not adhere one to the other. The clay refers to the red clay of Edom (Esau) whose descendants are the Muslims. The iron is the development over many years of the Roman Empire which became the Holy Roman Empire and still exists today within the Catholic church.

• Ezekiel focuses on the battle of Gog (Agag) and Magog. When one counts the nations mentioned, they are ten Arabic areas (ten kings or ten toes).
  
  • Ezekiel 38:2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog (1), of the land of Magog (2), the prince of Rosh (3), Meshech (4), and Tubal (5), and prophesy against him,…⁵ Persia (6), Ethiopia (7), and Libya (8) are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; ⁶ Gomer (9) and all its troops; the house of Togarmah (10) (Turkey) from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you.
    
  • Revelation 20:8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.
    

• Psalm 83 also mentions ten Arabic nations and a battle. The coalition of Psalm 83 may also be the same as the coalition of Gog and Magog, also Arabic.

• Note: The Club of Rome is one of the most influential groups directing world events made up of the powerful, rich, educated, and renown people of the world. It delegates the Nobel Peace Prize to people who, in my opinion, promote their ideology of a one world government and currency, encouraging a world wide planet of united faith, re-educating the youth through the governmental educational systems, and protecting the planet through environmental actions. Al Gore, Barak Obama, and Pope Francis all have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their respective actions within the agenda of the Club of Rome; Al Gore for Global Warming, Barak Obama for Political Peace, and Pope Francis for his United Faith Initiative currently taking place in Jerusalem, a city which is quickly becoming an idolatrous harlot full of the globalism of Babylon, the debauchery of Sodom, and the worldliness of Egypt. The Club of Rome (COR) is both iron and clay. A religious figure will be the false prophet and the Antichrist will be a political figure. Isaiah 21 describes an attack on Jerusalem in the middle of the tribulation when the Antichrist betrays the Jews and breaks his “peace treaty”.

Amos 7:² And so it was, when they (the locust swarms) had finished eating the grass of the land, that I said:

“O Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy yᵊhōvâ), forgive, I pray!
Oh, that Jacob may stand, (Or How shall Jacob stand)
For he is small!”

• The grass is all of Israel’s resources.

Amos 7:³ So the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) relented (changed His mind) concerning this.
“It shall not be,” said the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ).

• The remnant of Jews will not perish.

Vision of the Fire

Amos 7:⁴ Thus the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy yᵊhōvâ) showed me: Behold, the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy yᵊhōvâ) called for conflict (to contend) by fire, and it consumed the great deep and devoured the territory (Lit. portion).

Amos 7:⁵ Then I said:

“O Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ) , cease, I pray!
Oh, that Jacob may stand,
For he is small!”

Amos 7:⁶ So the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) relented concerning this.
“This also shall not be,” said the Lord God (‘ăḏōnāy Yᵊhōvâ).

Vision of the Plumb Line

Amos 7:⁷ Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord (‘ăḏōnāy) stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand.

Amos 7:⁸ And the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”

And I said, “A plumb line.”

Then the Lord (‘ăḏōnāy) said:

“Behold, I am setting a plumb line
In the midst of My people Israel;
I will not pass by them anymore.

• A vertical plumb line used by builders to see if a construct is square.
• Israel is not square…but out of line, crooked.

Amos 7:⁹ The high places (Places of pagan worship) of Isaac shall be desolate,
And the sanctuaries (Or holy places) of Israel shall be laid waste.
I will rise with the sword against the house of Jeroboam.”

Amaziah’s Complaint

Amos 7:¹⁰ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear (Or endure) all his words.

Amos 7:¹¹ For thus Amos has said:

‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
And Israel shall surely be led away captive
From their own land.’ ”

Amos 7:¹² Then Amaziah said to Amos:

“Go, you seer!
Flee to the land of Judah.
There eat bread,
And there prophesy.

Amos 7:¹³ But never again prophesy at Bethel,
For it is the king’s sanctuary (Or holy place),
And it is the royal residence (Lit. house).”

Amos 7:¹⁴ Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah:

“I was no prophet,
Nor was I a son of a prophet,
But I was a sheep breeder
And a tender of sycamore fruit.

• Sycamore fruit is ball-like, nodding, hairy fruit clusters.

• A tree of great importance and very extensive use. It attains the size of a walnut tree has wide-spreading branches and affords a delightful shade. On this account it is frequently planted by the waysides. Its leaves are heart-shaped, downy on the under side, and fragrant. The Fruit grows directly from the trunk itself on little sprigs, and in clusters like the grape. To make It eatable, each fruit, three or four days before gathering, must, it is said, be punctured with a sharp instrument or the finger-nail. This was the original employment of the prophet Amos, as he says. ( Amos 7:14 ) So great was the value of these trees that David appointed for them in his kingdom a special overseer, as he did for the olives ( 1 Chronicles 27:28 ) and it is mentioned as one of the heaviest of Egypt’s calamities that her sycamores were destroyed by hailstones.

Amos 7:¹⁵ Then the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) took me (Lit. from behind) as I followed the flock,
And the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) said to me,
‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’

Amos 7:¹⁶ Now therefore, hear the word of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ):
You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,
And do not spout (Lit. drip) against the house of Isaac.’

Amos 7:¹⁷ “Therefore thus says the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ):

‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city;
Your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword;
Your land shall be divided by survey line;
You shall die in a defiled land;
And Israel shall surely be led away captive
From his own land.’ ”
