Jude 1

Greeting to the Called

Jude 1:Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James,
  • Jude and James (either brothers of Jesus or Jude, a descendant of James)
To those who are called, (beloved) sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ:
  • A scripture defining roles where the Father sanctifies and the Son preserves.
Jude 1:Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Contend for the Faith

Jude 1:3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
Jude 1:For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The Magician:
Stage curtains opened slowly as an expectant, yet silent audience, watch a dark, almost invisible form materialize from nowhere. In the backdrop of low, tense music his arm emerges from a black cape as he extends an open palm holding a solid rock of pure Gold. All eyes focus on his wrist as it turns, displaying the Gold’s brilliance and magnificence. Whispers of “aaahs” and “oooohs” hang in the air as he continues to display the Gold left, right, and center. Then, in the blink of an eye, his cape swirls, and suddenly the Gold has disappeared. In its place the outstretched palm holds a pile of filth.

The audience erupts in wild applause, celebrating the magician’s art without realizing that the priceless had just been exchanged for something worthless and vile… and the simple audience fell for it.
    • Remember it was Esau who exchanged his birthright for a bowl of soup and his salvation for something to pacify his immediate appetite.
      _ _ _ _ _
  • The Alchemist:
A dark, musty room, full of dust and cobwebs, enveloped by a mist of light in the atmosphere. There, the frail, hunched over alchemist sat stoically, surrounded by small stacks of books. His head moved back and forth as he studied, scribbling notes, reading pages, and examining the chemistry of a jar of liquid gold-looking paste which he had finally concocted.

A mis-colored heavy rock had been placed on top of an open book forcing its pages apart. No one would have guessed how the alchemist’s heart had become as hard as that rock on the open book, and like the book his spine is broken and bent.

Reader beware! He is reviewing his plan to get even with his neighbor for an imagined affront. With a pleasant smile on his face, he reaches for the jar, pausing in sweet thoughts of vengeance as he begins to ever so slowly swirl the heavy liquid paste inside the jar.

He is almost done with his unholy plan; dipping, smearing, and covering the self-same rock with his glittery liquid paste. The golden rock to be placed out back on his property. There, his neighbor will surely spot it and offer to buy his property from him for an outrageous price.

In his mind’s eye, he tortures his neighbor who is left holding the bag.
    • Matthew 7:2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

  • The Actor:
In the New Testament the meaning of hypocrite is “actor”, or “mask”.
    • Strong’s G5273 – hypokritēs
    • Matthew 23:27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.
    • Note: Hypocrites are all men who wear masks to conceal their sins.
  • The Quick Change Artist:
The quick change artist is the person who pleases God. He repents – putting away his dirty clothes in order to put on the clean clothes of the righteous.
    • “Therefore, putting away (the stained clothes from) lying, (to putting on the linen clothes of righteousness) each one speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. . . . Let him who stole (donned in the filthy rags of stealing – change into “holy” clothes) steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.” Ephesians 4:25,28.

    • POEM
Oh yes you were shamed when you took the blame becoming slaves to the god of this age which accuses the serpent with blame.
      Not pleased with the leaf
disbelief, but the sacrifice that demanded lamb’s life replaced the mask with new life. You pretend not to sin but the serpent’s no friend

Bite after bite, Adam and Eve, appetite settled but never appeased
cut down from the tree, two broad shaped leaves -Put on their masks
their task to mask their lower half, Hypocrites! Can’t you see?

Why do you hide in the bushes from Me who walked with you Adam and walked with you Eve in the cool of the morning and the dusk of the eve
we walked together enjoying the breeze.
    • Instead you will wear the skin of the lamb, no longer will you be forced to pretend.
    • But you are taken to task to expose the craft of the serpent who called Me a deceiver.

Now I demand, you must give to me, I retrieve the mask from you Adam and certainly Eve,
that task that demanded a mask for their lower half to hide behind the shadows and trees.

      Filthy leaves discard.
Take this, my own skin, my coat of woolly fur to cover and keep you
until I destroy him, the serpent, then I will return again.

Old and New Apostates

Jude 1:But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
  • With God, ANYTHING is possible. Yet, God would have to take away a person’s freewill and reduce him to a lifeless, soulless robot. Maybe such IS hell having one’s personhood destroyed.
Jude 1:And the angels who did not keep their (own) proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;
  • Those angels are called demons. Jesus did not die to save demons, He died for you and me.
Once leaving their own domain they took on evil. An unholy change of garments.
Jude 1:as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance (punishment) of eternal fire.
Jude 1:Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of (glorious ones, lit. glories) dignitaries.
Jude 1:Yet Michael the archangel, in contending (arguing) with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
Jude 1:10 But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.
Jude 1:11 Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

Apostates Depraved and Doomed

Jude 1:12 These are spots (stains, or hidden reefs) in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried (along) about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;
Jude 1:13 raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
Jude 1:14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,
  • The return of Jesus at the end of the seven year tribulation. Jesus returns with all His saints and angels to fight at Armageddon. His foot lands on Mount Olives.
Jude 1:15 to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.

Apostates Predicted

Jude 1:16 These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.
Jude 1:17 But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Jude 1:18 how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.
Jude 1:19 These are (soulish or worldly) sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.

Maintain Your Life with God

Jude 1:20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
Jude 1:21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Jude 1:22 And on some have compassion, (who are doubting) making a distinction;
Jude 1:23 but others save (on some have mercy) with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.

Glory to God

Jude 1:24 Now to Him who is able to keep (them) you from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
Jude 1:25 To (the only God our) God our Savior,
(Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Be glory) Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and (Before all time), power,
Both now and forever.
Amen.
