Acts 3

A Lame Man Healed

Acts 3:1 Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour (3pm).
Acts 3:And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask (beg) alms from those who entered the temple;
Acts 3:who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.
Acts 3:And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.”
Acts 3:So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.
Acts 3:Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
  • There wasn’t enough silver and gold that could heal this man’s legs. Therefore; the value of Jesus is far more than the value of money.
  • A wise man knows the value of one thing over another.
  • A List of the biggest fools in biblical history:
    • Esau valued a bowl of soup for his birthright (salvation). He was a fool. (Genesis 25:34)
    • Ruben traded his birthright for a fling with his father’s concubine. He was a fool. (Genesis 49:3-4)
    • Belshazzar valued the Jewish temple drinking vessels over the Jewish Captives and was slain that very day. He was a fool. (Dan 5:30)
    • Nabal, whose name means “fool”, valued his own resources over helping King David’s army. He was a fool. His heart turned to stone. (Genesis 25:34)
    • The biggest fool of all is Saul. He didn’t kill King Agag of the Amalakites, which resulted in giving rise to Haman, his descendant who tried to exterminate the Jews during Queen Esther’s time; Furthermore, there are reasons to believe he will also prophetically spawn the Antichrist in his “downline” of descendants. See Topic: The Antichrist (Genesis 25:30-34)
Acts 3:And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
Acts 3:So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God.
Acts 3:And all the people saw him walking and praising God.
Acts 3:10 Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
  • The Beautiful Gate is also called the Eastern Gate in which the entrance is currently walled up.
  • Jewish tradition states that the Messiah will pass through the Eastern Gate when He comes to rule.

  • Jesus IS the Beautiful Gate.
    • John 10:Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the gate of the sheep. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Acts 3:12 So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?
Acts 3:13 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go.
