Job 38

• Job couldn’t have created the universe, but God can and did. God can be trusted.

The Lord Reveals His Omnipotence to Job

Job 38:¹ Then the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:

Job 38:² “Who is this who darkens (hides) counsel (wisdom) by words without knowledge?

Job 38:³ Now prepare yourself (Lit. gird up your loins) like a man ;

• See II Kings 4:29 (Lit. Gird up your loins. The skirt of the robe was wrapped around the legs and tucked in the belt to gain freedom of movement. Modern Euphemism would be “Man Up”: Get prepared for trouble, remove your fear.)
• The loin is the place of a man’s manhood, the inside thigh.

I will question you, and you shall answer Me.

Job 38:⁴ “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding.

• The Laws of Physics and the Spiritual Laws are the foundations of the earth.
• The Lamb of God was sacrificed at the foundation of the heavens and the earth.
• Jesus is the cornerstone of the foundation to initiate God’s agenda.

Job 38:⁵ Who determined its measurements?
Surely you know!
Or who stretched the line (measuring line) upon it?

Job 38:⁶ To what were its foundations fastened?
Or who laid its cornerstone,

• Note: Jesus is the symbolic cornerstone of the temple, ensuring everything is perfectly straight both vertically and horizontally.  Jesus is the foundation stone for God’s agenda for the redemption of men.
• Isaiah 28:16 A Cornerstone in Zion – Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I lay in Zion (Jerusalem) a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.
• Psalm 118:22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
• Ephesians 2:¹⁹ Christ Our Cornerstone – Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, ²⁰ having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, ²¹ in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, ²² in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Job 38:⁷ When the morning stars sang together,
And all the sons of God ‘(ĕlōhîm) shouted for joy?

• Note: The morning stars are the angels (messengers) of God, called the “sons of God”.

• Note: Sons of God include the fallen angels who left their original abode and crossed God’s boundaries.:
  • Genesis 6:2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.
  • Genesis 6:4 There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
  • Jude 1:6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;

Job 38:⁸ “Or who shut in the sea with doors,
When it burst forth and issued from the womb;

Job 38:⁹ When I made the clouds its garment,
And thick darkness its swaddling band;

Job 38:¹⁰ When I fixed My limit for it,
And set bars and doors;

Job 38:¹¹ When I said,
‘This far you may come, but no farther,
And here your proud waves must stop!’

• Note: God is pro-boundaries. He divided the light and the darkness, the sea and the land, the days of the week, the Jew and the Gentile, the clean and the unclean, the righteous laws and the evil deeds. He is strong on boundaries between the two: “This far you may come, but no farther”. Anything that overflows its boundaries is evil. A flood is symbolic of an invading army that overflows it boundaries. Likewise, locusts invade a land and eat up its resources. Weeds are invasive and bear no fruit. The veil in the temple separated a holy God from a sinful man.

Job 38:¹² “Have you commanded the morning since your days began,
And caused the dawn to know its place,

• The dawn is called the Gold of the Morning. The morning is symbolic of the rapture.
• One of the arguments for a Pre-tribulation rapture is Job 38:12-13.

Job 38:¹³ That it might take hold of the ends (time and geography) of the earth,
And the wicked be shaken out of it? (wicked acts have ceased at Jesus’ global reign at the end of the tribulation during the millennium)

• The seven year tribulation is the end of the earth.
  • Isaiah 24:20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, And shall totter like a hut; Its transgression shall be heavy upon it, And it will fall, and not rise again.
    
• Jesus’ return, immediately following the tribulation, will result in shaking the wicked out of it (causing wickedness to cease after Armageddon).
  • Malachi 4:1 – The Great Day of God – “For behold, the day is coming, Burning like an oven, And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,” Says the Lord of hosts, “That will leave them neither root nor branch.
    
• It appears that “it” is the rapture, which takes hold at the end of the earth when the saints return with Jesus at Armageddon, and Jesus sets up His kingdom, when the wicked will cease.

Job 38:¹⁴ It (the ends of the earth) takes on form like clay under a seal (the Seven Seals),
And stands out like a garment.

• Isaiah 51:6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, And look on the earth beneath. For the heavens will vanish away like smoke, The earth will grow old like a garment, And those who dwell in it will die in like manner; But My salvation will be forever, And My righteousness will not be abolished.
• The Edomites in Ezekiel 39 point to the clay (red earth Edom) and the Antichrist as enemies of Israel, which are prophecied to be shaken out of the earth which is also clay (Adam).

Job 38:¹⁵ From the wicked their light is withheld,
And the upraised (proud- Lit. high) arm is broken.

Job 38:¹⁶ “Have you entered the springs of the sea?
Or have you walked in search of the depths?

• The “sea” is often used as the “sea of people” in symbolism.

Job 38:¹⁷ Have the gates of death been revealed (Lit. opened) to you?
Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death?

• Revelation 1:18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.
• Matthew 28:6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Job 38:¹⁸ Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth?
Tell Me, if you know all this.

• The size of the earth, moon, and stars are measured precisely, and located in the Milky Way galaxy perfectly.
  
  • The Sun and the Moon appear the same size in the sky. That’s because the Sun is 400 times bigger than the Moon, but also 400 times farther away. It’s been called “the great coincidence,” but there are no coincidences with God.
    
    • Total lunar eclipse
      The Moon is completely covered by Earth’s dark inner shadow, turning the lunar surface dark orange or red.
      
    • Total solar eclipse
      The Moon passes between Earth and Sun, completely covering the Sun’s disk along a narrow path. The Moon casts its shadow on Earth’s surface during a total solar eclipse.
      
    • Annular solar eclipse
      The Moon is a bit farther from Earth than average, so a ring of sunlight encircles the Moon as it passes between Earth and Sun.
      
    • The location of the earth in the Milky Way is toward the outside arms allowing mankind to see into the farthermost and darkest places in the universe.
      The Sun and hence earth is located in the Orion Arm, also known as the Orion Spur, of the Milky Way galaxy. It is a minor spiral arm located between the Sagittarius Arm and the Perseus Arm.
      There are 3,916 solar systems in our galaxy.
      

Job 38:¹⁹ “Where is the way to the dwelling of light?
And darkness, where is its place,

Job 38:²⁰ That you may take it to its territory,
That you may know the paths to its home?

Job 38:²¹ Do you know it, because you were born then,
Or because the number of your days is great?

Job 38:²² “Have you entered the treasury of snow,
Or have you seen the treasury of hail,

• Snow is symbolic of purity and the rapture.
• Hail is symbolic of judgment and the tribulation.

• There is great hail at Jesus’ return to earth.

Job 38:²³ Which I have reserved for the time of trouble,
For the day of battle and war?

• The time of trouble is the Seven Year Tribulation also called the Lord’s Day of Wrath.
• The day of battle and war last seven years; Gog and Magog in Ezekiel 38, Psalm 83, and Armageddon.

Job 38:²⁴ By what way is light diffused (Lit. divided-like a prism),
Or the east wind scattered over the earth?

• Jesus is the visible manifestation of the invisible Godhead ie The Color Spectrum.

Job 38:²⁵ “Who has divided a channel for the overflowing water,
Or a path for the thunderbolt,

Job 38:²⁶ To cause it to rain (Literally: the Messiah) on a land where there is no one,
A wilderness in which there is no man;

• Joel 2:23 Be glad then, you children of Zion, And rejoice in the Lord your God; For He has given you the former rain faithfully, And He will cause the rain to comedown for you— The former rain, And the latter rain in the first.
• Psalm 72:6 He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, Like showers that water the earth.

Job 38:²⁷ To satisfy the desolate waste,
And cause to spring forth the growth of tender grass?

Job 38:²⁸ Has the rain a father?
Or who has begotten the drops of dew?

• Note: The Rain is also translated “teacher”. The faithful teacher is the Messiah who comes down to us like Rain from heaven.
• The dew is symbolic of the rapture which disappears when the “Son” rises.

Job 38:²⁹ From whose womb comes the ice?
And the frost of heaven, who gives it birth?

Job 38:³⁰ The waters harden like stone,
And the surface of the deep is frozen (Lit. imprisoned).

Job 38:³¹ “Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades (Or the Seven Stars),
Or loose the belt of Orion?

Job 38:³² Can you bring out Mazzaroth (Lit. Constellations) in its season?
Or can you guide the Great Bear (Or Arcturus) with its cubs?

Job 38:³³ Do you know the ordinances (laws-physics) of the heavens?
Can you set their dominion over the earth?

Job 38:³⁴ “Can you lift up your voice to the clouds,
That an abundance of water may cover you?

Job 38:³⁵ Can you send out lightnings, that they may go,
And say to you, ‘Here we are!’?

Job 38:³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the mind (Lit. the inward parts)?
Or who has given understanding to the heart?

Job 38:³⁷ Who can number the clouds by wisdom?
Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven,

Job 38:³⁸ When the dust hardens in clumps (clay, miry clay?),
And the clods cling together?

Job 38:³⁹ “Can you hunt the prey for the lion,
Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,

Job 38:⁴⁰ When they crouch in their dens,
Or lurk in their lairs to lie in wait?

Job 38:⁴¹ Who provides food for the raven,
When its young ones cry to God,
And wander about for lack of food?
