The meaning of the word “Hebrew”: “Ivrim : To Cross Over, To Pass Over/Through,– those who had traversed”: there are several mentions of watery crossings: Abraham coming from beyond the River Euphrates, the dramatic Red Sea crossing of the Exodus, and the entry into the Promised Land as they crossed over the River Jordan.
Pass Over: Exodus 12:23 “For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood (of the slain lamb) on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.
- The Passover for the Church: I John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death. I Corinthians 5:7 Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
- To “Pass Over” is associated with the Hebrew word for “Holy”.
- The translation meaning for “Holy” is to be “separated”.
- The Angel of Death passed over the doors covered with blood from the slain lamb, spotlighting the need for men to be separated from sin by being covered in blood. A prophecy alert concerning the role of redeeming mankind with the blood of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world; He of whom “John the Baptizer” introduces to the Jewish nation as “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” – and He did it ON PASSOVER.
