Zechariah 14
- About the title: Egypt and other nations are shunned by God, making them “Nay-Shuns”.
- Prophetically, Jesus rules the world in Jerusalem after Armageddon. The nations that came against Israel are ruled with sternness.
- Psalm 9:7 But the Lord shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment.
- Psalm 122:5 For thrones are set there for judgment, The thrones of the house of David.
- Psalm 132:13-14 or the Lord has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His dwelling place:
“This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. - Psalm 2:6 “Yet I have set (installed) My King on My holy hill of Zion.”
“I will declare the decree:
The Lord has said to Me,
‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8 Ask of Me, and I will give You
The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.
9 You shall break (rule) them with a rod of iron;
You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ”
- Psalm 9:7 But the Lord shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment.
The Millennium: When Jesus Rules on Earth for One Thousand Years
Zechariah 14:18 If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord (yᵊhōvâ) strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
Zechariah 14:19 This shall be the punishment (sin) of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
- Note: Jesus will rule with a scepter of iron (strength, absolute authority).
- Psalm 2:9 You shall break them with a rod (scepter) of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ”
- Revelation 2:27 ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’— as I also have received from My Father;
- Revelation 12:5 She (Israel) bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child (Jesus) was caught up to God and His throne.
- Revelation 19:15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
- Egypt is singled out for its sin of not attending the Feast of Tabernacles. Is this literal, symbolic, an example, or purely prophetic?
- Egypt is only one of the nations with antisemitic issues, although, since it is now the Millennium, it has survived the Battle of Armageddon.
- Egypt is symbolic for its “worldliness”. It is also the nation in which the Jews were held captive as slaves until taken out of Egypt being led by Moses.
- It is used as an example for others in verse 18.
- Prophetically, like many other scriptures, it most likely will be literal.
