BIBLE: Ezekiel Chapter 47

Ezekiel 47

The following verses are both literal and symbolic.

The Healing Waters and Trees

Ezekiel 47:1 Then he brought me back to the door of the temple (Lit. house); and there was water, flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the front of the temple faced east; the water was flowing from under the right side of the temple, south of the altar.
Ezekiel 47:He brought me out by way of the north gate, and led me around on the outside to the outer gateway that faces east; and there was water, running out on the right side.
Ezekiel 47:And when the man went out to the east with the line in his hand, he measured one thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the water came up to my ankles.
Ezekiel 47:Again he measured one thousand and brought me through the waters; the water came up to my knees. Again he measured one thousand and brought me through; the water came up to my waist.
Ezekiel 47:Again he measured one thousand, and it was a river that I could not cross; for the water was too deep, water in which one must swim, a river that could not be crossed.
Ezekiel 47:He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?” Then he brought me and returned me to the bank of the river.
Ezekiel 47:When I returned, there, along the bank of the river, were very many trees on one side and the other.
Ezekiel 47:Then he said to me: “This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley (Or Arabah, the Jordan Valley), and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed.
  • Prophesy Alert: The Salt Sea will become fresh waters.
Ezekiel 47:And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers (Lit. two rivers) go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.
Ezekiel 47:10 It shall be that fishermen will stand by it from En Gedi to En Eglaim; they will be places for spreading their nets. Their fish will be of the same kinds as the fish of the Great Sea, exceedingly many.

News: Dead Sea Coming Alive with Fish & Fresh Water:

Sinkholes around the Dead Sea are causing fresh water to flow into the dead sea and thousands of sinkholes around the Dead Sea are filling with fresh fish.

In 2015 researchers from Ben Gurion University sent divers to the floor of the Dead Sea. Among other things, they found craters up to 15 meters (16-1/2 yards) across with fresh water coming into the sea.

Not only is fresh water coming from beside the shores. Fresh water is also coming from below.

Lot looked out on the valley where the Dead Sea is now and saw an incredibly fertile and well-watered region.

  • And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before Hashem (the Name: God’s name) destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Hashem (the Name: God’s garden which is Eden). Genesis 13:10 (The Israel Bible)

The landscape changed when fire and brimstone destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah turned the valley into a wasteland.

Ezekiel 47:11But its swamps and marshes will not be healed; they will be given over to salt.

The swamps and marshes are literally: miry clay.

Miry clay: To Bleach, Be White
h1207   בִּצָּה biṣṣâ
Intensive from H1206; a swamp:—fen, mire(-ry place).
בֹץ bôts, botse; probably the same as H948; mud (as whitish clay):—mire.
From an unused root (of the same form) meaning to bleach, i.e. (intransitive) be white, fine (white) linen.

Ezekiel 47:12 Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine. (Or healing) ”
  • Revelation 22:1 The River of Life – And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Note: See Revelation 22:1-2 for explanation of the trees and the leaves. They are both literal and symbolic.

The tree of life is in the middle of the street instead of the Garden of Eden. The tree of life is Jesus: He pronounced “I AM the way, the truth, and the LIFE”. Jesus was in the Garden of Eden.

The tree of life in this chapter has 12 fruits for the healing of the nations. It represents Israel and the 12 tribes. Jesus has set up his kingdom in Jerusalem (Israel). Since the Fig Tree is symbolic of the nation Israel, the tree in the Garden of Eden may have been the Fig Tree. Adam and Eve also covered themselves with Fig leaves.

Borders of the Land

Ezekiel 47:13 Thus says the Lord God: “These are the borders by which you shall divide the land as an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph shall have two portions.
Ezekiel 47:14 You shall inherit it equally with one another; for I raised My hand in an oath to give it to your fathers, and this land shall fall to you as your inheritance.
Ezekiel 47:15 “This shall be the border of the land on the north: from the Great Sea, by the road to Hethlon, as one goes to Zedad,
Ezekiel 47:16 Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim (which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath), to Hazar Hatticon (which is on the border of Hauran).
Ezekiel 47:17 Thus the boundary shall be from the Sea to Hazar Enan, the border of Damascus; and as for the north, northward, it is the border of Hamath. This is the north side.
Ezekiel 47:18 “On the east side you shall mark out the border from between Hauran and Damascus, and between Gilead and the land of Israel, along the Jordan, and along the eastern side of the sea. This is the east side.
Ezekiel 47:19 “The south side, toward the South (Heb. Negev), shall be from Tamar to the waters of Meribah (Lit. Strife) by Kadesh, along the brook to the Great Sea. This is the south side, toward the South.
Ezekiel 47:20 “The west side shall be the Great Sea, from the southern boundary until one comes to a point opposite Hamath. This is the west side.
Ezekiel 47:21 “Thus you shall divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel.
Ezekiel 47:22 It shall be that you will divide it by lot as an inheritance for yourselves, and for the strangers who dwell among you and who bear children among you. They shall be to you as native-born among the children of Israel; they shall have an inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.
Ezekiel 47:23 And it shall be that in whatever tribe the stranger dwells, there you shall give him his inheritance,” says the Lord God.
