Jesus as A Stone of Stumbling
- Rejected Blessing
- Isaiah 8:14 He will be as a sanctuary, But a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense To both the houses of Israel, As a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
- The Stone of Stumbling is the stone one stubs his toe on when it is in the field (the world) hidden by weeds (unbelievers) and its value is discarded.

- Romans 9:32 Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.
- Zechariah 12:3 And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.
- Luke 20:18 Whoever falls on that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.”
Jesus as the Stone of Boundaries
- Holy (“Set Apart”)
- 1 Samuel 7:12 Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

Jesus as the Stone of Vengeance in David’s Sling

- I Samuel 17:49 Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him.
- David took vengeance on Israel’s enemies with the stone he relied on for his life. The Stone that killed Goliath was David’s Rock of Salvation. Deut 32:15 Psalm 89:26
Jesus as the Stone from Heaven
- Two Stones from Heaven: The One who grows into a mountain and the other rains down judgment in hailstones.
- Stone of Judgment from Heaven

- Joshua 10:11 And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the Lord cast down large hail-stones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hail-stones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.

- Revelation 16:21 And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.
- The Stone that grows into a Kingdom

Jesus as the Foundation Stone

- Psalm 118:22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
Jesus as the Tomb – Stone. The Stone of the Empty Tomb.

Jesus as the Capstone

Jesus as the Rock in the Wilderness

Jesus as the Stone of Jacob’s head
- The Anointed One
- Genesis 28:11 So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep.
- Genesis 28:18 Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it (anointed it).
- Genesis 28:22 And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.”
Jesus as the Stone over the Well
- The Stone and Living Water
- Genesis 29:2-3 And he looked, and saw a well in the field; and behold, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks. A large stone was on the well’s mouth. Now all the flocks would be gathered there; and they would roll the stone from the well’s mouth, water the sheep, and put the stone back in its place on the well’s mouth.

But what can I do this day to these my daughters or to their children whom they have borne? 44 Now therefore, come, let us make a (oath) covenant, you and I, and let it be a witness between you and me.”
45 So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar. 46 Then Jacob said to his brethren, “Gather stones.” And they took stones and made a heap, and they ate there on the heap. 47 Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha (heap of witnesses in Arabic), but Jacob called it Galeed (heap of witnesses in Hebrew). 48 And Laban said, “This heap is a witness between you and me this day.” Therefore its name was called Galeed, 49 also Mizpah (Literally: Watch), because he said, “May the Lord watch between you and me when we are absent one from another. 50 If you afflict my daughters, or if you take other wives besides my daughters, although no man is with us—see, God is witness between you and me!”
51 Then Laban said to Jacob, “Here is this heap and here is this pillar, which I have placed between you and me. 52 This heap is a witness, and this pillar is a witness, that I will not pass beyond this heap to you, and you will not pass beyond this heap and this pillar to me, for harm. 53 The God of Abraham, the God of Nahor, and the God of their father judge between us.” And Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac. 54 Then Jacob offered a sacrifice on the mountain, and called his brethren to eat bread. And they ate bread and stayed all night on the mountain. 55 And early in the morning Laban arose, and kissed his sons and daughters and blessed them. Then Laban departed and returned to his place.- Joshua 24:27 And Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, this stone shall be a witness to us, for it has heard all the words of the Lord which He spoke to us. It shall therefore be a witness to you, lest you deny your God.”

Jesus as the Stone of Israel

- Genesis 49:24 But his (Joseph’s) bow remained in strength, And the arms of his hands were made strong By the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob (From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),

Jesus as the Stone of the Cutting off of the Flesh (world)

- Exodus 4:25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses’ feet, and said, “Surely you are a husband of blood to me!”

Jesus as the Stone of Judgment
- Justice
- Exodus 15:5 The depths have covered them (Egyptians); They sank to the bottom like a stone.Nehemiah 9:11 And You divided the sea before them, So that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; And their persecutors You threw into the deep, As a stone into the mighty waters.Exodus 19:12 ‘Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13 Not a hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with an arrow; whether man or beast, he shall not live.’
- Exodus 21:29 But if the ox tended to thrust with its horn in times past, and it has been made known to his owner, and he has not kept it confined, so that it has killed a man or a woman, the ox shall be stoned and its owner also shall be put to death.
- Exodus 21:32 If the ox gores a male or female servant, he shall give to their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.
- Exodus 31:18 And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony (the Ten Commandments), tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.
Jesus as the Stone of Salvation
- The Passover
- Exodus 15:16 Fear and dread will fall on them; By the greatness of Your arm (Jesus) They will be as still as a stone, Till Your people pass over, O Lord, Till the people pass over Whom You have purchased.
- Joshua 4:7 Then you shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed over (passed over) the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.”
Jesus as the Stone of Rest
- The Sabbath, the Prince of Peace
- Exodus 17:12 But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
- 1 Samuel 6:18 even as far as the large stone of Abel on which they set the ark of the Lord, which stone remains to this day in the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh.
Jesus as the Stone of His Kingdom
- The Lawmaker
- Exodus 19:10 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. 11 And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. 12 You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base (the mountain is God’s kingdom). Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13 Not a hand shall touch him (that hand will become unclean), but he shall surely be stoned (as judgment) or shot with an arrow; whether man or beast, he shall not live.’
- Exodus 20:25 And if you make Me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn (cut) stone; for if you use your tool on it, you have profaned it. (Jesus was not man-made, but conceived by the Holy Spirit).
Jesus as the Stone of Healing
- The Plague is in the Stone
- Leviticus 14:40 then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which is the plague, and they shall cast them into an unclean place outside the city.
- John 19:20 Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city (therefore outside the city); and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.
- Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions (plagues), He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
- 1 Peter 2:24 who Himself bore our sins (plague) in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
