Praise to God for His Everlasting Mercy

Psalm 118:1 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
  • Say it once.
Psalm 118:Let Israel now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
  • Say it twice.
Psalm 118:Let the house of Aaron now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
  • Say it three times
Psalm 118:Let those who fear the Lord now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”

Psalm 118:I called on the Lord in distress;
The Lord answered me and set me in a broad place.
  • In Hebrew thought openness represents freedom while captivity means to be bound up.

Psalm 118:The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?

Psalm 118:The Lord is for me among those who help me;

Psalm 118:It is better to trust in the Lord

Psalm 118:10 All nations (gentiles) surrounded me,
But in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.

Psalm 118:11 They surrounded me, Yes, they surrounded me;
But in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.
Psalm 118:12 They surrounded me like bees; They were quenched like a fire of thorns; For in the name of the Lord I will destroy (cut them off) them.
Psalm 118:13 You pushed me violently, that I might fall, But the Lord helped me.
Psalm 118:14 The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.
Psalm 118:15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.
  • The right hand is a position of authority. Jesus sat down at the Right Hand side of the Father.
  • The right hand is the useful part of the body, working on the body’s behalf.
  • The right hand is a euphemism for the son of the King; the Prince.
Psalm 118:16 The right hand of the Lord is exalted;
The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.
  • Psalm 110:1 Announcement of the Messiah’s Reign – A Psalm of David. The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”
Psalm 118:17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
Psalm 118:18 The Lord has chastened (disciplined) me severely,
But He has not given me over to death.
Psalm 118:19 Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, and I will praise the Lord.
Psalm 118:20 This is the gate of the Lord, through which the righteous shall enter.
  • This “Gate” is a One-Way gate.
    • John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
    • There is no other way.
Psalm 118:21 I will praise You, for You have answered me, and have become my salvation.
Psalm 118:22 The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
  • Isaiah 28:16 A Cornerstone in Zion Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.
Psalm 118:23 This was the Lord’s doing (Lit. This is from the Lord);

Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

  • Sometimes God waits until the last minute so that the receiver knows for certain the miracle is from their God.
Psalm 118:26 Blessed is he (He) who comes in the name of the Lord!
We have blessed you from the house of the Lord.
  • John 12:13 [Triumphal Entry] took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!”

Psalm 118:27 God is the Lord, and He has given us light;
Bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.
Psalm 118:28 You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, I will exalt You.
Psalm 118:29 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
