Isaiah 1

Judah Called to Repentance

Isaiah 1:1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

The Wickedness of Judah

Isaiah 1:Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth!
For the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) has spoken:
“I have nourished and brought up children,
And they have rebelled against Me;
Isaiah 1:The ox knows its owner
And the donkey its master’s crib (manger or feed trough);
But Israel does not know,
My people do not consider (understand).”
Isaiah 1:Alas, sinful nation,
A people laden with iniquity (Lit. heavy, weighed down),
A brood (offspring, seed), of evildoers.
  • Note: These are the children of the devil. This verse is prophetic:
    • Matthew 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
    • John 8:44 You (The Pharisees) are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
    • John 3:10 In this the children (seed) of God and the children (seed) of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.
  • The prophecy of the seed of Satan aka the devil begins in Genesis after Adam and Eve fell. These Pharisees are the prophecy spoken of in Genesis 3:
    • Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity (war) between you (the serpent Satan) and the woman (who will give birth to the Messiah, Jesus), and between your seed (the Serpent’s children) and her Seed (the children of righteousness); He (Jesus) shall bruise (destroy) your (Satan’s) head (your source of power), And you shall bruise (destroy) His heel (authority on earth).”
Isaiah 1:4 Children who are corrupters!
They have forsaken the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ),
They have provoked to anger
The Holy One of Israel,
They have turned away backward.
Isaiah 1:Why should you be stricken again?
You will revolt more and more.
The whole head is sick,
And the whole heart faints.

Isaiah 1:From the sole of the foot even to the head,
There is no soundness in it,
But wounds and bruises and putrefying sores;
They have not been closed or bound up,
Or soothed with ointment.
  • Israel rebelled against God. She was stricken and sick.
  • What can God do to heal Israel severe sickness? Provide for them His own stricken Son. A Son beaten as severe as their sins from head to foot.
  • Isaiah is speaking prophetically of the crucifixion of the coming Christ who was beaten from the sole of his crucified foot to the thorns in his brow as the shroud of Turin so explicitly illustrates.
  • Up Close and Ugly:
    • This image shows the extent of the wounds that match the crucified Christ, from the piercing in his side, the crown of thorns on his head, the piercing of his hands and feet, and the massive beatings everywhere on his back and front from the sole of his feet to his head.
    • The Shroud contains “distance information” that enables the cloth to be read like a 3D map. Antonacci says that he and others have petitioned the Vatican to allow the Shroud to be tested at the atomic and subatomic levels. His hypothesis is that the Shroud was indeed a burial cloth and that the image on it was caused by “particle radiation emanating from the dead, crucified body” wrapped inside it.
  • Facts concerning the shroud:
  1. Even after much scientific testing, none were able to explain how this image appeared on the cloth. It is not a painting.
  2. The image on the cloth lies just on its surface, but, had not penetrated to the fibers.
  3. Analysis of the Shroud of Turin suggests that the image on the cloth features photo negativity, an artifact that was not known to the people during the medieval times.
  4. Another mystery with this piece of linen is how 3-dimensional features can come up in an artifact that is assumed to be formed in the medieval ages.
  5. The Failure of the Carbon Dating Test has been proven to be otherwise, it goes back to Jerusalem during the time of Christ by the testing of pollen and the weave. One other argument for evidence against the Carbon Dating Test is The Pray Codex.

BELOW: THE PRAY CODEX ILLUSTRATION dated between the 1100s and the 1200s

  • One of the five illustrations within the Codex shows the burial of Jesus. This illustration shows remarkable similarities with the Shroud of Turin: that Jesus is shown entirely naked with the arms on the pelvis, just like in the body image of the Shroud of Turin; that the thumbs on this image appear to be retracted, with only four fingers visible on each hand, thus matching detail on the Turin Shroud; that the supposed fabric shows a herringbone pattern, identical to the weaving pattern of the Shroud of Turin; and that the four tiny circles on the lower image, which appear to form a letter L, “perfectly reproduce four apparent “poker holes” on the Turin Shroud”, which likewise appear to form a letter L.
  • It has been scientifically proved that the image was never formed, using brush strokes, or with the use of biological agents, powder, dye, or paints. Thus, the exact way the image got cast on the cloth, is still a mystery.
  • If the stain on this cloth is to be believed to be the blood of Christ, it should have come in shades of black as older blood stains turn into. However, the stain still lies in the blood red shade.
  • Researchers conducted the blood analysis for the strain and it displayed positive results in terms of the aspects like Heme, serum and bile. Moreover, the blood was found to be AB+ and it comprises the human DNA.
  • The figure is without directionality or an outline.
  • It includes information of distance that is usually observed in topographical maps.
The Wounds of the Beating
  • The wounds of the beating.
  • If the cloth is a crucified man, one must conclude it is Jesus the Christ. (the timing, the pollen, the coins on the eyes, the scourging, the crown of thorns, and the spear in the side at the least)
  • Roman authorities wanted criminals to suffer on the cross and ultimately die of asphyxiation. That meant before crucifixion, criminals were either lightly flogged or not at all, so not to weaken them and hasten death. Pontius Pilate had Jesus beaten and flogged to the extreme hoping it would be punishment enough for his “blasphemy.” But John’s Gospel says the crowd demanded Christ’s crucifixion after his flogging. Later in the day when Jewish leaders asked Pilate to break the legs of the three men to hasten their death so that their bodies could be taken off the cross before the Sabbath, the Gospel states that Jesus was already dead. There was no need to break his legs, unlike (the case of) the two common thieves beside him.
  • No broken bones are evident on the Shroud, a finding consistent with the messianic prophecy in Psalms (34:19–20)

Isaiah 1:Your country is desolate,
Your cities are burned with fire;
Strangers devour your land in your presence;
And it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
Isaiah 1:So the daughter of Zion is left as a booth (shelter) in a vineyard,
As a hut in a garden of cucumbers,
As a besieged city.
Isaiah 1:Unless the Lord of hosts (Yᵊhōvâ ṣāḇā’)
Had left to us a very small remnant,
We would have become like Sodom,
We would have been made like Gomorrah.
Isaiah 1:10 Hear the word of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ),
You rulers of Sodom (Jerusalem);
Give ear to the law of our God (‘ĕlōhîm),
You people of Gomorrah (Jerusalem):
  • Jerusalem is THAT GREAT CITY Called Babylon, Egypt and Sodom (and Gomorrah) for her Idolatry, Worldliness, and Debauchery.
  • And their dead bodies (the two witnesses) will lie in the street of the great city (Jerusalem) which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.  Rev. 11:8
  • “On her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”  Rev 17:5
  • Jeremiah 23:14 Also I have seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: They commit adultery and walk in lies; They also strengthen the hands of evildoers, So that no one turns back from his wickedness. All of them are like Sodom to Me, and her inhabitants like Gomorrah.
Isaiah 1:11 “To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?”
Says the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ).
“I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams
And the fat of fed cattle.
I do not delight in the blood of bulls,
Or of lambs or goats.
  • These sacrifices were only a holding place card of faith until the real sacrifice appears that takes away the sin of man once and for all.
Isaiah 1:12 “When you come to appear before Me,
Who has required this from your hand,
To trample My courts?
  • Note: Jesus overturned the money changers’ tables.
Isaiah 1:13 Bring no more futile (worthless) sacrifices;
Incense is an abomination to Me.
The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies—
I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting.
Isaiah 1:14 Your New Moons and your appointed feasts
My soul hates;
They are a trouble to Me,
I am weary of bearing them.
Isaiah 1:15 When you spread out your hands (Pray),
I will hide My eyes from you;
Even though you make many prayers,
I will not hear.
Your hands are full of blood.
Isaiah 1:16 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes.
Cease to do evil,
Isaiah 1:17 Learn to do good;
Seek justice,
Rebuke (vindicate) the oppressor;
Defend the fatherless (the oppressed),
Plead for the widow.
Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ),
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.
  • Jesus’ red blood covers Israel’s red (scarlet) sins. Red is the color of Sin and Redemption.
Isaiah 1:19 If you are willing and obedient,
You shall eat the good of the land;
Isaiah 1:20 But if you refuse and rebel,
You shall be devoured by the sword”;
For the mouth of the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) has spoken.

The Degenerate City

Isaiah 1:21 How the faithful city (Jerusalem) has become a harlot (unfaithful)!
It was full of justice;
Righteousness lodged in it,
But now murderers.
  • Jerusalem is called a harlot in the book of Revelation. She is called the great city, being compared to Babylon for her idolatry, to Egypt for her worldliness, and to Sodom for her debauchery.
    • “Where also our Lord was crucified.”  Rev. 11:8
  • The harlot is a great city:
    • Rev 17:18 “And the woman whom you saw is that great city…”
    • Which great city is “That Great City”?
      • “On her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”  Rev 17:5
      • Is that great city Babylon? No because she is drunk on the death of the saints.
    • The great city is “Jerusalem”. She is not only compared to Babylon for her idolatry, but also to Egypt for her worldliness and Sodom for her debauchery.
      • And their dead bodies (the two witnesses) will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.  Rev. 11:8
      • “I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus.” Rev 17:6
      • And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.” Rev. 17:18
        • Which kings? The Ten Kings – the ten crowns on the last head of the beast. The ten kings who give their power to the beast for one hour (during the seven year tribulation) as represented by the ten toes on Nebuchadnezzar’s statue.
Isaiah 1:22 Your silver has become dross,
Your wine mixed with water.
  • Both the silver and the wine have been distilled; lowered in value.
Isaiah 1:23 Your princes (leaders) are rebellious,
And companions of thieves;
Everyone loves bribes,
And follows after rewards.
They do not defend the fatherless,
Nor does the cause of the widow come before them.
Isaiah 1:24 Therefore the Lord (‘āḏôn) says,
The Lord of hosts (Yᵊhōvâ ṣāḇā’), the Mighty One (‘ŏḇîr yiśrā’ēl) of Israel,
“Ah, I will rid Myself (be relieved of) of My adversaries,
  • God is calling them his adversary…
Isaiah 1: 24 And take vengeance (avenge Myself) on My enemies.
  • And His enemy.
Isaiah 1:25 I will turn My hand against you,
And thoroughly purge away your dross (refine with lye),
And take away all your alloy.
Isaiah 1:26 I will restore your judges as at the first,
And your counselors as at the beginning.
Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.”
  • This will not happen until the Millennium after the future seven years of tribulation
Isaiah 1:27 Zion shall be redeemed with justice,
And her penitents (Literally returners) with righteousness.
  1. Jesus is Zion’s kinsman redeemer, which is why in the gospels He calls Himself “the Son of man”.
  2. The “returners” is an interesting term. Today, the Jews are returning to Israel after  being dispersed for thousands of years. They are the dry bones, which are very dry, in Ezekiel which God causes to live again. We are witnesses of this miracle today. They are in the process of “bone upon bone coming together again”.
    • The returners are also those whose hearts return to God during the tribulation.
Isaiah 1:28 The destruction of transgressors and of sinners shall be together,
And those who forsake the Lord (Yᵊhōvâ) shall be consumed.
Isaiah 1:29 For they (Or: you) shall be ashamed of the terebinth trees (sites of pagan worship)
Which you have desired;
And you shall be embarrassed because of the gardens
Which you have chosen.
Isaiah 1:30 For you shall be as a terebinth whose leaf fades,
And as a garden that has no water.
  • The terebinth tree is Jesus (Holy Seed Isaiah 6:13) It also represents a remnant.
    • Isaiah 6:13 But yet a tenth will be in it, and will return and be for consuming, as a terebinth tree or as an oak, whose stump remains when it is cut down. So the holy seed shall be its stump.”
Isaiah 1:31 The strong shall be as tinder,
And the work of it as a spark;
Both will burn together,
And no one shall quench them.
