OUTLINE by PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
Revelation 20 THE THINGS WHICH ARE TO COME: THE MILLENNIUM
The Blue Arrow: You Are Here:
Revelation 1:19 Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this.
- Revelation 20 moves from Jesus’ return to His thousand year reign called the Millennium.
Satan Bound 1,000 Years
- Revelation 20 looks at the capture of Satan from a spiritual point of view, we are not focusing on the events on earth but on the war between Satan and God. The dragon is Satan with no mention of the Antichrist.
Revelation 20:1 Then I saw an angel (messenger) coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
- The destroyer, Satan, had the key to the bottomless pit in Rev 9:1. However; this angel is not be a fallen angel. Something has changed between Revelation 9:1 and Revelation 20:1. The key has changed hands. Now all the power belongs to Jesus. Satan, like Haman is about to be hung on his own gallows. He who caused destruction is being thrown into destruction (the bottomless pit).
Revelation 20:2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him (with the great chain) for a thousand years;
Revelation 20:3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
- A thousand questions abound. What is the bottomless pit? Is there a physical bottomless pit in the universe like a black hole? Or is the bottomless pit strictly symbolic? Why is Satan cast into the bottomless pit? Why is he let out again? What is life like without the tempter being involved in mankind’s life?
- The bottomless pit – is a pit without a bottom. It is something that cannot be filled. One cannot escape from it. It is not a pleasant place. It is an abyss. A place where demons are imprisoned.
- Jude 1:6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day (the Great White Throne Judgment);
- Luke 8:31 And they (the demons) begged Him (Jesus) that He would not command them to go out into the abyss.
- A seal is a lock.
- Why is Satan cast into the bottomless pit and then released?
- There seems to be a correlation with the battle of Gog and Magog. This is a battle at the beginning of the tribulation and after the millennium, there is a second battle of Gog and Magog. Even though Jesus brought peace and prosperity to the earth, the coaltion continues to hate.
- The Bottomless Pit is man’s heart of neediness without God. There isn’t enough money, fame, power, or love to fill that empty heart.
The Saints Reign with Christ 1,000 Years (The Millennium)
Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God,
The Tribulation was for people who did not accept Christ’s blood for their salvation. Therefore, after the rapture … during the tribulation, they had to sacrifice their own blood by not taking the Mark of the Beast.
During the seven year tribulation, the living will envy the dead.
The Age of Grace ended at the Rapture. Like Noah’s Ark, the door slammed shut, and, as Paul said “How shall we escape if we neglect SO GREAT A SALVATION!” and “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
(Those) who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Revelation 20:5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. (However!) This (the saints of the tribulation) is (part of) the first resurrection (the believers).
Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Satanic Rebellion Crushed
Revelation 20:7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison
Revelation 20:8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.
- The Arabic Gog and Magog coalition, whose number is as large as the sand of the sea vs. the Jews who number is no longer as large as the sand of the sea.
- Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, The remnant will be saved. Romans 9:27
Revelation 20:9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.
Revelation 20:10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where [where also] the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
The Great White Throne Judgment
Revelation 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.
- This is the second resurrection. The resurrection of those from the beginning of creation who have rejected God.
A true resurrection is someone who has died, has been raised from the dead, never to die again.
- The first resurrection precedes the second resurrection.
- The first resurrection happens in three stages: 1) The first stage was historical. Jesus was raised from the dead on First Fruits. Afterwards, the wave offering in which tombs were opened and certain saints went into the city to spread the word. The 2) second stage of the first resurrection occurs according to the pattern of the Feast of Trumpets, the believers will be raised from the dead; the Main Harvest, along with the Rapture of believers who are still alive, at the last of 100 trumps. Then, the earth is empty of believers. It is void of usefulness. There are no praises to the God of Heaven. God is about to pour out his wrath on earth, the seven years of tribulation on the earth. 3) The third stage of the first resurrection will be according to the pattern of the Jewish Feast known as the Day of Atonement. This resurrection is the gleanings of the harvest of God at the end of the tribulation. These are those who were saved during the tribulation. Now, the last of the believers have been resurrected called the first resurrection, stage one, stage two, and stage three of the first resurrection.
- Afterwards the second resurrection is called “The second death”. Not one of these are written in the “Book of Life”. Each one will be judged by his or her works. Not one single person will be able to save themselves by their works. Not one.
- Evil men do not fear judgment, until it comes upon them.
- Malachi 4:1 “For behold, the day is coming, Burning like an oven, And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,” Says the Lord of hosts, “That will leave them neither root nor branch.
- Isaiah 33:14 *The sinners in Zion are afraid; Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites: “Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”
- I question the fate of the following: 1) Pontius Pilate who believed he had power over Jesus’ life, 2) John Lennon, who believed he was more popular than Jesus. He should have focused on the fact that believing in God isn’t popular and that Jesus is God. John Lennon, the creature, can’t compete with Jesus, the Creator. John Lennon will defend himself before the throne of God by explaining the following quote: “I don’t know which will go first—rock ‘n’ roll or Christ-ianity”. 3) Hitler, who used the name of God as an excuse to try to annihilate the Jews. 4) A man I knew who I will not name who mocked the Holy Spirit and the immaculate birth by laughing that a ghost drug Mary behind a barn and raped her.
- Who will judge men and angels at the Great White Throne Judgment?
- 1 Corinthians 6:2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
- 1 Corinthians 6:3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?
- How would you judge Hitler?
- I would judge him with neither love nor hate. I would judge him with justice.
- He would be condemned to a type of hell where he would have to live the life of everyone who was murdered in the holocaust because of him, becoming them, one at a time. When that was finished, he would then have to likewise live the life of those who weren’t murdered but suffered because of the holocaust, again, becoming one of them, one at a time. When that judgment was finished he would then have to live the lives of every person in every successive generation of those who were affected by the history of the holocaust, living in pain as a result of the holocaust, becoming them, one at a time. Finally, for the rest of the eternities, he would once again become a man, but this time to serve those whose lives he had destroyed directly or indirectly.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before (the throne of) God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works (because their name was not found in the book of life), by the things which were written in the books (of works).
Revelation 20:13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.
- Those who bind will be bound, those who torture will be in torments, and those who kill will be killed by the second death after the Great White Throne Judgment.
Revelation 20:14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
- Isaiah 33:14 *The sinners in Zion are afraid; Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites: “Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”
- Matthew 8:12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
- Matthew 13:42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
- Matthew 13:50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
- Matthew 22:13 *Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
- Matthew 24:51 and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
- Matthew 25:30 *And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
- Luke 13:28 *There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out.
- Matthew 25:41 *“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:
Revelation 20:15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
- Not one single person was able to save themselves by their works. Not one.
