John 19

The Crucifixion in Other Gospels:
Matthew Chapter 27
Mark Chapter 15
Luke Chapter 23

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

John 19:1 So then Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him.
John 19:And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe.
John 19:Then (they came up to Him and) they said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they struck Him with their hands.
John 19:Pilate then went out again, and said to them, “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him.”

Pilate’s Decision

John 19:Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, “Behold the Man!”
John 19:Therefore, when the chief priests and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!
Pilate said to them, “You take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault in Him.”
John 19:The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God.”
John 19:Therefore, when Pilate heard that saying, he was the more afraid,
John 19:and went again into the Praetorium, and said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.
John 19:10 Then Pilate said to Him, “Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power (authority) to crucify You, and power to release You?”
John 19:11 Jesus answered, “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.”
John 19:12 From then on Pilate sought to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you let this Man go, you are not Caesar’s friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”
John 19:13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus out and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

John 19:15 But they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!”
Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?”
The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”
John 19:16 Then he (Pilate) delivered Him to them to be crucified. Then they took Jesus and led Him away.

The King on a Cross

John 19:17 And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha,
John 19:18 where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.
John 19:19 Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was:
JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
John 19:20 Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city (Jerusalem); and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.
John 19:21 Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but, ‘He said, “I am the King of the Jews.” ’ ”
John 19:22 Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”
John 19:23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one piece.
John 19:24 They said therefore among themselves, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says:
“They divided My garments among them,
And for My clothing they cast lots.”
Therefore the soldiers did these things.

Behold Your Mother

John 19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus 1) His mother, and 2) His mother’s sister, 3) Mary the wife of Clopas, and 4) Mary Magdalene.
John 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved (John, the author of this gospel) standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”
John 19:27 Then He said to the disciple (John), “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple (John) took her to his own home.

It Is Finished

John 19:28 After this, Jesus, knowing (seeing) that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”
John 19:29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
John 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished! And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
John 19:31 Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
  • Preparation Day: The preparation day cannot be Passover because Passover was considered a day of rest in which no work was to be done. Passover begins the seven days of unleavened bread.“In Israel, Jews cease working for the duration of the festival. In most other places, Orthodox Jews celebrate the first two and last two days of the festival by ceasing all manual labor, but they may do work during the days in between. Reform Jews actively celebrate only the first and last days of their seven-day-long Passover. ~Live Science – Passover ”https://www.livescience.com/33213-faq-passover.html

The Preparation Day is Nissan 14 when the lamb is killed before Passover. The next day, Passover, is considered a Sabbath.
John 19:32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him.
John 19:33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.
  • PROOF OF GOD’S WORD: @Prophecy fulfillment alert [Psalm 34:20 He guards all his bones; Not one of them is broken.]
John 19:34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
John 19:35 And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe.
John 19:36 For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken.”
John 19:37 And again another Scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they pierced.”
  • PROOF OF GOD’S WORD: @Prophecy Alert
    • Zechariah 12:10 [Mourning for the Pierced One] “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.
    • Jesus was the firstborn. He was Mary’s firstborn. He was God’s only son. He was the firstborn from the dead never to die again. He was the firstfruit of those who will be resurrected. He died the same day (although many years apart) as the Pharaoh’s firstborn son in the plagues of Egypt.
    • Revelation 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,
    • Zechariah 12:10 is postulated to happen in the future at Christ’s second coming, literally or after the pattern of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, also called the Day of Return. The Jews will mourn for him in their affliction of the tribulation.
    • Hosea 5:15 I will return again to My place (seated at the right hand of the Father) Till they acknowledge their offense (The Jewish descendants). Then they will seek My face; In their affliction (tribulation) they will earnestly seek Me.”
John 19:38 After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus.
John 19:39 And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.
John 19:40 Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.
John 19:41 Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.
John 19:42 So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.

  • Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the day the Passover lamb was selected for sacrifice. Like the Passover lamb, He was examined for three days by the chief priests for a spot or blemish (in His teachings).  Jesus was killed on Passover Preparation, the same day the lamb in Egypt was killed and its blood put on the doorposts to keep the angel of death away. He rose on First Fruits signifying the first of those resurrected from the grave. Then, the Spirit was given on Pentecost.
  • On First Fruits there was also a Wave Offering. Jesus was the first to rise from the dead never to die again. Immediately afterwards several tombs of the saints were opened; they go into the city to appear to many. Together, with Jesus, these are the “stalks of grain” of the sheaf wave offering.
  • The First-Fruit and Wave Offering are both parts of a harvest. A harvest, throughout scripture, represents resurrections.
  • Passover, First Fruits, and Pentecost are Spring Festivals. The Spring Festivals represent the events of Jesus during his first presence on earth. Each event was fulfilled on the exact same day as the festival.

What does this say about the Autumn festivals not yet fulfilled? :
Rosh Hashanah (the Feast of Trumpets),
Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement),
Shabbat (The Festival of Booths)

Are they reserved for Jesus’ second “advent”? There are more resurrections to come.

Below: The Autumn Feast of the High Holy Days and proposed Prophecies: (Note: All ten days are called the Days of Affliction, but between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement there are only seven to match Daniel’s 70th “week” and the seven years of tribulation. Jesus suffered for seven days between His triumphal entry and the day He rose from the dead on First Fruits. Numbers 14:34 For each day of disobedience – one year of God’s rejection. This would certainly pertain to the Jewish Leaders who conspired and succeeded in killing Jesus. The Leaders represented the Jewish nation.

  • Whether symbolic or literal they portray many prophetic events: Rosh Hashanah fits the scriptural Rapture and main Resurrections when the Grace age believers are raised. It appears to be the main harvest. It lasts for two of the the first ten days of the High Holy Days (“The Days of AWE”). A trumpet is sounded 90 times from the beginning of the month to the end of the month, until Rosh Hashanah when the trumpet is sounded 10 times more. The last trump of the last ten is the last trump of I Corinthians 15:52
    • I Corinthians 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
  • Immediately following Rosh Hashanah are seven days of affliction to match the Seven Year Tribulation (Aka Daniel’s 70th “week”). By Jewish tradition, Jews are to afflict themselves in preparation for the last day, the Day of Atonement, or Yom Kippur.
  • The seven year tribulation focuses on God preparing the Jews for recognizing their Messiah at His Return, preparing them for their Atonement.
    • The word “tribulation” means “thrashing”. The thrashing of wheat is to separate the wheat from the chaff. It is as though God is taking the Jews to the woodshed and giving them the thrashing of their lives.
    • Jerusalem was purchased by King David as a “threshing floor”.
A trumpet is sounded 90 times from the beginning of the month to the end of the month of Elul, until the first day of Tishri at Rosh Hashanah when the trumpet is sounded 10 times more. The last trump of the last ten is the last trump of I Corinthians 15:52:
    • II Corinthians 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
  • Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement also known as, and called, The Day of Return which immediately follows seven days of affliction. It is the last day of the ten High Holy Days. A few interesting facts: In modern day Jewish thought it is the day the Jews are to repent and return to God. Literally or Symbolically, it is after the pattern of the day Jesus returns to them. Yom Kippur is the day when the High Priest enters the Holy of Holies to place the blood on the altar, since Jesus is our High Priest and the Lamb of God, He laid His blood metaphorically on the altar.
    • Matthew 24:21 (The seven year tribulation/affliction) For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.
    • Note: Not even the Holocaust would be comparable.
  • Therefore; it is plausible that Yom Kippur represents the return of Jesus: Below are events that are prophesied to occur on His return.

Verses concerning prophetic events occurring at Jesus’ Return:

The Feast of Booths, also an Autumn Feast, follows the High Holy Days. It represents Jesus as God dwelling with men when He sets up His Kingdom on earth ruling in Jerusalem.

If the pattern holds true, the Jewish Menorah illustrates the seven feasts best:
