Zechariah 14

  • About the Title: Zechariah 14:11 focuses on the future Millennium when the promised land is restored, while the Jews dwell openly and safely.
  • It is a prophetic time when Jesus reigns on earth for 1,000 years from Jerusalem.

Zechariah 14:11 The people shall dwell in it;
And no longer shall there be utter destruction,
But Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.

  • These reference verses describe the world during the Millennium:
    1. When Jesus returns in the clouds with His Saints and Angels to fight for them at Armageddon, the Millennium becomes a time when every remnant Jew, still living after the Seven-Year Tribulation, will believe that Jesus is indeed their Messiah King.

      Revelation 1:7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him (the descendants of the Jews). And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

      Zechariah 12:10 Mourning for the Pierced One: “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.
    2. The Millennium is the time when God’s promises from the Abrahamic and Davidic Covenants are fulfilled.

      Psalm 65:1 Praise is awaiting You, O God, in Zion; And to You the vow (covenant, oath, pact, promise) shall be performed.
    3. The souls of the Tribulation Martyrs will rule with Jesus for one thousand years, either in a spiritual state or a bodily resurrection.

      Revelation 20:4 The Saints Reign with Christ 1,000 Years: And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
    4. Jesus, the global Messiah King rules the world from Jerusalem.

      Ezekiel 20:33 [God Will Restore Israel] “As I live,” says the Lord God, “surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you.

      Micah 4:7b So the Lord will reign over them in Mount Zion from now on, even forever.

      Psalm 2:“I will declare the decree (order): The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You the Gentile nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron (the power of your scepter/authority); You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ”

      Psalm 2:10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son (Embrace discipline; Receive instruction), lest He (the Lord) be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

      Isaiah 33:5 The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high; He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.

      Isaiah 33:10 “Now I will rise,” says the Lord;
      “Now I will be exalted,
      Now I will lift Myself up.
    5. The Jews who have been scattered will be gathered to their homeland, beginning with the Return of Jesus.

      Note: After their captivity by the Romans in 70 AD, the Jewish people finally returned to their homeland when Israel once again became a nation in 1948. It had been 1,878 years of being scattered among the Gentile nations under severe persecution. According to prophecy, they will be scattered once more when the Antichrist attacks Jerusalem. They are dispersed among the nations into hiding, to be regathered once again.

      Isaiah 65:9 I will bring forth descendants from Jacob,
      And from Judah an heir of My mountains; My elect shall inherit it,
      And My servants shall dwell there.
      10 Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the Valley of Achor, a place for herds to lie down,
      For My people who have sought Me.

      Zechariah 10:“I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph. I will bring them back, because I have mercy on them. They shall be as though I had not cast them aside; For I am the Lord their God, and I will hear them. Those of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall rejoice as if with wine. Yes, their children shall see it and be glad; Their heart shall rejoice in the Lord. I will whistle for them and gather them, for I will redeem them; And they shall increase as they once increased.

      Isaiah 27:12 And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord will thresh, from the channel of the River (Euphrates) to the Brook of Egypt [the description of the area of the Promised Land] and, you will be gathered one by one, O you children of Israel. 13 So it shall be in that day: The great trumpet will be blown (The Return of Jesus).

      Psalm 53:6 Oh, that the salvation (literally “Yeshua” in Hebrew, or “Jesus” in Greek) of Israel would come out of Zion!
      When God brings back the captivity of His people,
      Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.

    6. Men will live to be thousands of years old with extended lives, even as it was before the Great Worldwide Flood.

      Isaiah 65:22b For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people,
      And My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

      The 9 Oldest, Tallest, and Biggest Trees in the World - One ...AI Overview
      On August 7, 1964, the World’s Oldest Known Tree, named Prometheus’, was Cut Down … accidentally!
      Unbeknownst to the people working with it, Prometheus was discovered to contain more than 4,800 annual growth rings and was verified to be 5,000 years old. Bristlecone Pines, like Prometheus, grow only in high elevations of California, Nevada, and Utah, and thrive in harsh, high-altitude environments. They are now a highly regarded species and protected by the Federal Government.”

      Other species, like the Giant Sequoia, can live for over 3,000 years, and the Patagonian Cypress, an exceptionally long-lived species, is now also estimated to be over 5,000 years old.
  • Note: The remnant of people left on the earth will live throughout the Millennium, from its beginning to its end. One can only imagine how that can happen with a God who simply spoke this entire universe into existence. In history-past, at creation, this earth had an orb of ice surrounding it, giving it the environment of a terrarium, with water reservoirs in the chambers below the ground. Scripture states that a mist came up from the ground and watered the earth (Genesis 2:6). At creation, it appears, there were no “seas”, since there will be no seas when Jesus creates a New Heaven and a New Earth (Revelation 21:1). After the Great World-Wide Flood, Noah was the first man to witness a rainbow in the sky. It is surmised that the Ice Orb was shattered, causing it to fall and crash into the newly opened chambers of water, violently forcing water upwards, and contributing to the rain lasting forty days and nights. Without the ice orb protecting men from the radioactivity of the sun, men lived shorter and shorter lives. Eventually, this Earth will be destroyed again, not by water, but by volcanoes, meteors, wars, earthquakes, and men’s eternal, sinful quest for power and money. “The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, And shall totter like a hut; Its transgression shall be heavy upon it, And it will fall, and not rise again.” (Isaiah 24:20)
  • God’s focus of mercy and loving kindness is on the Jewish people.

    Isaiah 65:24 “It shall come to pass
    That before they call, I will answer;
    And while they are still speaking, I will hear.

    Isaiah 65:16 So that he who blesses himself in the earth
    Shall bless himself in the God of truth;
    And he who swears in the earth
    Shall swear by the God of truth;
    Because the former troubles are forgotten,
    And because they are hidden from My eyes.

    Isaiah 65:23b For they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord,
    And their offspring with them.
  • A New Heaven and a new Earth.

    Revelation 21:1 All Things Made New – Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also, there was no more sea.

    Isaiah 65:17 The Glorious New Creation
    “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.

    Isaiah 66:22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord, “So shall your descendants and your name remain.

    II Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
  • The “New Jerusalem” comes down from heaven.

    Note: This takes place after the creation of the “New Heavens and New Earth” because there is no more sea.

    Revelation 21:Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

    Revelation 21:22 But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

    Revelation 21:23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. 24 And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it.

    Revelation 21:25 Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). 26 And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it.

    Revelation 21:27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

    Revelation 21:But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
  • It is a time of perfect peace.

    Psalm 65:You who still the noise of the seas (sea of people), The noise of their waves (disagreements and issues when people slam into each other), And the tumult of the peoples.

    Micah 4:7b They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore. But everyone shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree, And no one shall make them afraid; For the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken.

    Isaiah 54:13 All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.
  • Justice and Righteousness rule:

    Psalm 10:17 Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart;
    You will cause Your ear to hear, 18 To do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
    That THEMan Of The Earth (like the Antichrist) may oppress (terrify) no more.

    Note: The “Man of the Earth” Antichrist was thrown into the Lake of Fire at the end of the Tribulation at Jesus’s second return. In One Millennium, they will be joined by Satan.

    Isaiah 1:26 I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward, you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.” 27 Zion shall be redeemed with justice, and her penitents (Lit. returners) with righteousness.

  • The Domestication of Wild Beasts.

    Isaiah 11:“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord As the waters cover the sea.

    Isaiah 65:25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, The lion shall eat straw like the ox,
    And dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,”
    Says the Lord.
  • The Jews Serve God as Priests.

    Zechariah 8:23 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” ’ ”
  • Jesus, symbolically, takes Israel (the Jews) as His wife.

    Hosea 2:19 “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, in loving kindness and mercy;
  • The Land of Israel is Exceptionally Fertile.

    Hosea 2:21 “It shall come to pass in that day that I will answer,” says the Lord;
    “I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth. 22 The earth shall answer
    With grain, with new wine, and with oil; They shall answer Jezreel (God will sow). 23 Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, and I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy;
    Then I will say to those who were not My people, You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’ ”

    Psalm 65:9 You visit (are attentive to) the earth and water it, You greatly enrich it; The river of God is full of water; You provide their grain, For so You have prepared it. 10 You water its ridges abundantly, You settle its furrows; You make it soft with showers, You bless its growth. 11 You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance. 12 They drop on the pastures of the wilderness, and the little hills rejoice on every side. 13 The pastures are clothed with flocks; The valleys also are covered with grain; They shout for joy, they also sing.
  • The Millennium is: “The Kingdom of Heaven,” which Jesus taught his disciples to pray for.

    Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

    Job 19:25 For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth;
    26 And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God,
    27 Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
    How my heart yearns within me!
