Job 36

  • Elihu speaks prophetically, of the tribulation, Jesus’ return, the millennium, and the Great White Throne Judgment.
  • Job’s friends did not know what was going on between God and Satan, they did not need to know, they just needed to be there to offer support for their friend.

Elihu Proclaims God’s Goodness

Job 36:1 Elihu also proceeded and said:
  • Elihu, the youngest, was not reproached by God for giving Job bad information. Job has three friends who spoke on God’s behalf in error. Elihu did not argue for or against the righteousness of men but rather to point out the righteousness of God, and that it is profitable to trust God if you do not see the immediate benefit.
Job 36:“Bear with me a little, and I will show you
That there are yet words to speak on God’s behalf.
  • Elihu acts as the Holy Spirit giving the correct representation of God. God is righteous in any action He chooses whether man is good or evil.
  • Alternatively, Job’s other three friends Bildad, Eliphaz, and Zophar, represent Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the three monotheistic religions of the world.
  • Zophar the Naamathite: Job is guilty.
  • Eliphaz “El is pure gold” a Temanite: Job is guilty. (Edomite)
  • Bildad
Job 36:I will fetch my knowledge from afar;
I will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.
  • Even as the Holy Spirit has access to the Maker.
Job 36:For truly my words are not false;
One who is perfect in knowledge is with you.
  • Only the Holy Spirit could be perfect in knowledge.
Job 36:“Behold, God is mighty, but despises no one;
He is mighty in strength of understanding (of heart).
Job 36:He does not preserve the life of the wicked,
But gives justice to the oppressed.
Job 36:He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous;
But they are on the throne with kings,
For He has seated them forever,
And they are exalted.
Job 36:And if they are bound in fetters (chains),
Held in the cords of affliction,
Job 36:Then He tells them their work and their transgressions
That they have acted defiantly (proudly).
  • God corrects those who are His.
Job 36:10 He also opens their ear to instruction (discipline),
And commands that they turn from iniquity.
Job 36:11 If they obey and serve Him,
They shall spend their days in prosperity,
And their years in pleasures.
Job 36:12 But if they do not obey,
They shall perish by the sword,
And they shall die without knowledge (as one without knowledge).
Job 36:13 “But the hypocrites in heart store up wrath;
They do not cry for help when He binds them.
  • The Hebrew meaning of hypocrite is “actor”. One who wears a mask.
Job 36:14 They (Heb. qedeshim, those practicing sodomy or prostitution in religious rituals) die in youth,
And their life ends among the perverted persons (Lit. Their soul dies).
Job 36:15 He delivers the poor in their affliction,
And opens their ears in oppression.
  • Affliction is like thorns.
Job 36:16 “Indeed He would have brought you out of dire distress (captivity),
Into a broad place where there is no restraint;
  • A broad place is considered a place of openness and freedom. The opposite is a narrow place whose concept is captivity.
  • After the time of tribulation when Jesus returns, the remnant of Jews enter the Millennium.
And what is set on your table would be full of richness.
Job 36:17 But you are filled with the judgment due the wicked;
Judgment and justice take hold of you.
  • There will be a judgment for the wicked at the Great White Throne Judgment.
Job 36:18 Because there is wrath, beware lest He take you away with one blow;
For a large ransom would not help you avoid it.
  • During the tribulation:
    • Ezekiel 7:19 ‘They will throw their silver into the streets, And their gold will be like refuse; Their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them In the day of the wrath of the Lord; They will not satisfy their souls, Nor fill their stomachs, Because it became their stumbling block of iniquity.
Job 36:19 Will your riches, or all the mighty forces, keep you from distress?
  • During the tribulation:
    • Ezekiel 7:19 ‘They will throw their silver into the streets, And their gold will be like refuse; Their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them In the day of the wrath of the Lord; They will not satisfy their souls, Nor fill their stomachs, Because it became their stumbling block of iniquity.
Job 36:20 Do not desire the night,
When people are cut off in their place.
  • The night lights… when the call of pleasure drifts through the darkness of the imagination, whispering secrets no one should hear. Blackness casts many shadows which rise up and stand on their own against the concrete wall of death. Withering pleasure, captive soul, you can leave but you can never go.
Job 36:21 Take heed, do not turn to iniquity,
For you have chosen this (iniquity) rather than affliction.
  • Why does God allow suffering?
  • A hedge of thorns of Affliction is better than iniquity for it corrects the path of the wandering soul.
Job 36:22 “Behold, God is exalted by His power;
Who teaches like Him?
Job 36:23 Who has assigned Him His way,
Or who has said, ‘You have done wrong’?
  • Isaiah 29:16 Surely you have things turned around! Shall the potter be esteemed as the clay; For shall the thing made say of him who made it, “He did not make me”? Or shall the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?
    • Adam, whom God formed, was made from the red clay of the earth.
  • Isaiah 64:8 But now, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.
  • The Root meaning of Clay: H2560 is to boil, be troubled, in turmoil
  • Men tend to boil and be in turmoil when Satan swims in the troubles of their lives. Satan is called a sea-monster, specifically, the Leviathan which literally means “to mourn“. See what God says about this sea monster who swims in the sea of people causing society to storm:

  • Job 41:24 His heart is as hard as stone, even as hard as the lower millstone. 25 When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid; Because of his crashings they are beside themselves. … 31 He makes the deep boil like a pot;... He beholds every high thing; he is king over all the children of pride.”

Elihu Proclaims God’s Majesty

Job 36:24 “Remember to magnify His work,
Of which men have sung.
Job 36:25 Everyone has seen it;
Man looks on it from afar.
Job 36:26 “Behold, God is great, and we do not know Him;
Nor can the number of His years be discovered.
  • How does one count eternity?
  • How can man understand God unless he understands His Son?
  • Man does not even understand himself.
Job 36:27 For He draws up drops of water (dew),
Which distill as rain (māṭār H4306) from the mist,
  • The Son of God is compared to Rain which in Hebrew can be translated as “Teacher” through the Hebrew word môrê H4175.
  • See Job 37
Job 36:28 Which the clouds drop down
And pour abundantly on man.
Job 36:29 Indeed, can anyone understand the spreading of clouds,
The thunder from His canopy?
Job 36:30 Look, He scatters His light upon it,
And covers the depths of the sea.
Job 36:31 For by these He judges the peoples;
He gives food in abundance.
Job 36:32 He covers His hands with lightning,
And commands it to strike (strike the mark).
Job 36:33 His thunder declares it,
The cattle also, concerning the rising (Lit. what is rising) storm.
